Role Description

This is a contract remote role for a Freelance Coloring Specialist. As a Coloring Specialist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality, visually appealing videos of coloring book coloring. This is a project-based role, and you will have the flexibility to work remotely.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in the use of Sharpie markers & colored pencils
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good understanding of color theory and design principles
  • Excellent ability to use complex coloring techniques to create vibrant and rich colored renderings of line-art
  • Ability to color quickly and remain inside the lines
  • Ability to take 4k Ultra HD videos in indirect, natural light from a fixed point while coloring
  • Ability to edit raw footage to produce fast-paced, professional, and highly appealing video content featuring the coloring process
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
  • Previous experience in the digital marketing or media industry is a plus
  • Artistic background and creativity are highly desirable

How to Apply

We will hire for this position based on a proven ability to create compelling video content for our coloring books. You will need to acquire a copy of our first published coloring book and create sample content to submit to us. Follow these steps to complete the application process:

  • Purchase our first coloring book:
  • Take one or more videos of yourself coloring one of the pages (use a plastic sheet between pages to prevent bleed-through)
  • Focus on coloring one area at a time so that smaller short-run videos can be created for each area
  • Edit the video(s) into a full-length feature depicting your coloring of the entire page, but with all "down-time" removed
  • Be consistent in the process of swapping out markers / coloring tools
  • Focus on consistent, indirect, natural lighting with no shadows obscuring the page being colored
  • Ensure that the audio clearly catches the sounds of the coloring tools on the paper
  • Ensure there is no distracting background noise
  • You can add instructional commentary about your coloring techniques used if you are comfortable doing so and can competently articulate how and why you are using a specific technique
  • Post your full-length video to YouTube (as a public video) and contact us on to review it
  • Add a comment making note how many hours it took to color the page and produce the video

We will make our hiring decision based entirely upon the quality of the video you submit to us for review. We will be looking at the following factors to make our determination:

  • 4k UHD video
  • Consistent, natural lighting
  • Single camera viewpoint with consistent page placement throughout the video
  • Minimal "down-time" in the video
  • Clear audio of coloring tools on the paper with no background noise
  • Visually appealing coloring tool movement
  • Visually appealing use of colors and complex coloring techniques to produce vibrant colored renderings of the scenes
  • The reach of your video on YouTube (total views) may also play a part in our decision (for example, if your video receives tens of thousands or more of organic views, that will be a big plus in your favor)

NOTE: If you have an Amazon Affiliate account, feel free to post a link to the coloring book using your affiliate ID in the video. While this will not impact our decision about whether to hire you, it could earn you some referral income.

Our first hiring decision for this role will take place during the first week of August, 2024. You have until then to submit your video to us to be considered for the position. We will be publishing additional coloring books and may be making additional hiring decisions at a future point.
