Function Description

The B35 for Monitoring Transformation team will be the First Line of Defense (FLoD) team with a mission to enable business growth and objectives while maintaining a strong control environment. The team acts as a Center of Excellence (CoE) within the business, and assists in the identification, quantification, monitoring, and management of Operational Risks related to the business products and processes for products owned by US Consumer Servicing (USCS) organization. Operational risk is the risk to the current or projected business objectives and resilience arising from inadequate or failed internal processes or systems, human errors or misconduct, or adverse external events.

The team's span will include multiple business verticals across US.

In line with Amex's "three lines of defense" approach to risk management, the FLoD Control Management team actively works with Second Line of Defense and Third Line of Defense teams to ensure adequate implementation of risk management framework requirements.

Job Requirements

The Manager : Control Management – USCS is a high-impact role that will support the expansion of an automated control testing program. The role will be responsible for control enhancement for key prioritized risks for USCS 1LoD and for ensuring governance of algorithm development exercise (including creating secure scheduling interface for 300+ algorithms) allowing for a future application of machine learning led algorithms to identify errors and outliers. The role will also cover RBST reporting processes, exceptions research and root cause analysis including, but not limited to, process & controls testing, data accuracy, sampling, data quality. The role will require the candidate to partner closely with the Regulatory Report owners, Technology, Data Governance, and other customers to meet business guidelines.

Key activities for the role will include:

Process review to identify control gaps and improvement opportunities for regulatory reporting processes. Ensuring compliance with reporting guidelines issued by regulators to support RBST reporting. Data analysis of portfolios and identify data elements required for testing or sampling. Lead, the identification, documentation, implementation of operational controls as per the RBST and PRSA guidelines and periodic testing to ensure QA controls are effective. Lead automation initiatives aimed at streamlining and strengthening the overall Governance process and for initiating machine learning algorithm development backed by effective self learning algorithms. Perform regular assessment on KRI execution and scheduling infrastructure to maintain efficient execution. Display thought leadership, drive process, and support work/life balance initiatives. Mentor and train new hires and early tenure team members through communicating role expectations and standards, leading job shadowing, and coordinating quality of results from new team members. Responsible for generating significant insights to be presented to key business partners.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of regulatory reporting, audit and familiarity with US Regulatory Reporting standards for RBST / PRSA / KRIs is preferred. Strong knowledge of data structures, relational databases and data modeling – experience with Big Data platforms (Cornerstone, BigQuery, etc) a plus Minimum of 3+ years hands-on experience with (or certification in) enterprise-level BI / Data Visualization Tools such as Tableau (preferred), PowerBI, Sisense, etc. Experience with enterprise collaboration tools including Jira, Rally, Confluence and Airtable Experience in financial analytics, reporting, data analytics, data controls and understanding of data processing logics. Knowledge of SQL queries and core languages (Python, Pyspark, Shell etc.) and understanding of database management is plus. Postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Engineering/Management preferred.
