Job Overview:
The General Manager of R&D and Innovation plays a vital role in providing strategic guidance and supervision to the Research and Development (R&D), Innovation, and Quality departments within the company.
This position demands a profound understanding of food science, quality control practices, and regulatory standards to drive innovation while ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of food products.
(Note: Proficiency in new age automation and AI technology in manufacturing and a strong grasp of food technology are essential requirements for this role.)
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the R&D and Quality strategy aligned with overall business goals.
- Lead interdisciplinary teams to stimulate innovation, product development, and process enhancements.
- Offer guidance to R&D and Quality teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
Research and Development
- Lead R&D projects to create new food products, formulations, and recipes that meet consumer preferences, market trends, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with internal departments like marketing, operations, and sales to pinpoint market opportunities and transform consumer insights into innovative products.
- Oversee product development initiatives from concept to market launch, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
Quality Assurance and Control
- Establish and maintain robust quality management systems and processes to ensure adherence to food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, HACCP, GMP).
- Implement quality control measures across the production process, from sourcing raw materials to distributing finished products.
- Conduct routine audits, inspections, and tests to monitor product quality, detect deviations, and implement corrective measures.
Regulatory Compliance
- Stay updated on food safety regulations, industry norms, and best practices to guarantee compliance with relevant guidelines.
Team Development and Management
- Recruit, nurture, and guide a high-performing team of R&D and Quality professionals, including food scientists, technicians, and quality assurance experts.
- Organize training sessions and workshops to enhance staff expertise in food science, quality management, and regulatory adherence.
Stakeholder Management

Qualifications:
- Masters/Bachelor's or advanced degree in food science, food engineering, Dairy, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (typically 15+ years) in R&D and quality management roles within the food manufacturing industry.
- Solid understanding of food safety regulations, quality management systems, and industry standards (e.g., FSMA, SQF, BRC).
- Proven track record in driving innovation in food product development, formulation, and commercialization.
- Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing projects from ideation to market launch.
- Effective problem-solving skills, keen attention to detail, commitment to continuous improvement and quality excellence, and ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while adapting to changing priorities.
