Aquis Search is currently assisting our client, a prestigious financial services business, in their search for an Associate Director, Legal in Mumbai.

In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring our client's compliance with relevant Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) regulations and managing relationships with the SEBI regulator. You will provide legal guidance and support to the business team, mitigating risks and safeguarding our client's interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of SEBI regulations, particularly those pertaining to the securities market.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in SEBI regulations, ensuring operations and processes are aligned with the latest regulatory developments.
  • Represent our client in interactions with the SEBI regulator, managing relationships and addressing inquiries or concerns effectively.
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance to the business team on complex matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Conduct legal risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to protect interests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business units and compliance, to ensure consistent interpretation and implementation of legal requirements.
  • Review and provide legal input on methodologies, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage and oversee legal aspects of assignments, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of legal training programs for team members.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 8-12 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in the banking, or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of SEBI regulations, securities laws, and related legal frameworks.
  • Experience in managing regulatory relationships, particularly with SEBI, is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguous and high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in legal research, drafting, and document review.
  • A team player with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to mentor and guide legal team members.
  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent from a recognized university.
