Role Overview

Republic is on the lookout for young journalists and professionals who thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure ecosystem of digital news and current affairs. If you feast on the breaking news cycle, obsess over current affairs—domestic and global—and are driven to tell stories that matter, this is the team for you.

We are hiring across levels for our Digital Video Team, which drives both the Breaking News vertical and the Originals & Explainers desk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and respond to breaking developments in real time, turning them into compelling digital video formats.
  • Research, write, and produce short-format breaking videos as well as long-form explainers and originals.
  • Script and visualise news videos for anchor-led, footage led, byte-driven and voiceover-driven formats.
  • Work on deep research for podcast and interview formats.
  • Work closely with editors, graphic teams, and motion designers to deliver sharp, high-impact videos across Republic Digital platforms.
  • Ideate and pitch content that goes beyond the headline — with context, depth, and creativity.
  • Assist in live coverage, newsroom coordination, when needed.

What We're Looking For

  • A news-first mindset: You're always tuned in, quick to react, and fast and accurate to publish.
  • Ability to handle tight deadlines, breaking scenarios, and fast publishing turnarounds.
  • Strong editorial understanding of politics, governance, geopolitics, and people stories.
  • Familiarity with video scripting, basic editing workflows, and digital publishing tools (YouTube Studio, CMS, etc.)
  • Interest in formats like YouTube, Podcasts, Reels, Shorts Explainers, and visual storytelling.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic background and record
  • 1–5 years of experience in a newsroom or relevant current affairs environment.
  • Freshers with exceptional academic and content portfolios may also apply.

Bonus if You Have

  • Working knowledge of Premiere Pro, Canva, or After Effects.
  • Past experience in a digital newsroom or social video production setup.
  • An existing content portfolio (videos, reels, scripts, or storyboards)
