Responsibilities:

  1. Database Management:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle databases (versions 12c, 19c, etc.) in a production and non-production environment.
  • Perform database tuning, optimization, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
  1. Backup and Recovery:
  • Implement and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures using Oracle RMAN.
  • Develop strategies for backup, archival, and recovery of databases to ensure data protection.
  1. Database Security:
  • Ensure database security by implementing access control, monitoring, encryption, and auditing mechanisms.
  • Manage roles, privileges, and user access in compliance with organizational policies and best practices.
  1. Performance Tuning:
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize SQL queries, PL/SQL code, and database parameters.
  • Use performance tuning tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), AWR, and ADDM to monitor and optimize system performance.
  1. Database Upgrades and Patching:
  • Plan, test, and apply database patches and upgrades as needed, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
  • Perform database migrations between different versions and environments.
  1. Data Integrity and Security:
  • Ensure high levels of data integrity, quality, and availability.
  • Implement data masking, encryption, and auditing to safeguard sensitive data.
  1. Clustering and High Availability:
  • Manage Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Implement Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management) for effective storage management.
  1. Automation and Scripting:
  • Develop and maintain scripts for database monitoring, job scheduling, and automation using tools like Shell, Perl, Python, or PL/SQL.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Use Oracle monitoring tools (e.g., OEM, Grid Control) to monitor database health, performance, and availability.
  • Generate reports on database performance, incidents, and utilization trends.
  1. Incident and Problem Management:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, ensuring root cause analysis and preventive measures.
  • Work with the support team to provide technical assistance for complex issues.
  1. Database Design and Architecture:
  • Assist in designing database schemas, data models, and indexing strategies to optimize query performance.
  • Work with application developers to ensure efficient database interactions.
  1. Documentation:
  • Maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Create runbooks for standard database maintenance tasks and DR procedures.

Required Skills and Experience:

  1. Oracle Database Administration:
  • Strong experience in Oracle 12c/19c database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and ASM.
  1. SQL and PL/SQL:
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL for writing, tuning, and debugging queries, procedures, and packages.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills for complex SQL queries.
  1. Backup and Recovery:
  • In-depth knowledge of RMAN for backup and restore operations, and Oracle Flashback for data recovery.
  1. Performance Tuning:
  • Proficient in database and SQL tuning using tools like AWR, ADDM, and SQL Tuning Advisor.
  1. Database Security:
  • Strong understanding of Oracle database security, auditing, and compliance with data protection standards.
  1. Scripting Skills:
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Shell, Perl, Python for automating database administration tasks.
  1. High Availability and Clustering:
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and clustering solutions for high availability and disaster recovery.
  1. Operating Systems:
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems for Oracle database administration.
