Job Overview: The Special Educator is responsible forproviding specialized instruction and support to students withdisabilities or diverse learning needs. Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Educationor a related field (e.g. Education Psychology).

State certification or licensure in SpecialEducation.

Experience workingwith students with disabilities in educationalsettings.

Knowledge ofspecial education laws regulations and bestpractices.

Strongcommunication collaboration and problemsolvingskills.

Patience empathy anda passion for supporting students with diverse learningneeds.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment andEvaluation:

Conduct assessments to identify studentsstrengths challenges and learning needs.

Analyze assessment data to develop individualizededucation plans (IEPs) tailored to students unique abilities andrequirements.

Monitor studentprogress through ongoing assessment and evaluation adjustinginstructional strategies and interventions asneeded.

  1. Instruction and Intervention:

Provide specializedinstruction to students with disabilities in oneonone small groupor inclusion settings.

Develop and implement instructional materials andactivities that align with students IEP goals andobjectives.

Use evidencebasedteaching strategies and accommodations to address students diverselearning styles and needs.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to modifycurriculum and adapt instructional materials for students withdisabilities.

  1. Behavior Management and Social SkillsDevelopment:

Implement behavior management strategies andpositive reinforcement techniques to support studentssocialemotional development.

Teach and model social skills communicationskills and problemsolving strategies to help students buildpositive relationships and succeed in socialsettings.

Work with studentsparents and support staff to address behavioral challenges anddevelop individualized behavior plans asneeded.

  1. Collaboration andConsultation:

Collaborate with classroom teachersadministrators and support staff to promote inclusive practices andcreate a supportive learning environment for students withdisabilities.

Consult withparents guardians and external professionals to gather input shareprogress and coordinate services for students withdisabilities.

Participate inmultidisciplinary team meetings IEP meetings and othercollaborative forums to discuss student progress share insights anddevelop strategies for supporting studentsuccess.

  1. Professional Development andAdvocacy:

Stay informed about best practices researchfindings and legal requirements related to special education anddisability services.

Engagein ongoing professional development activities to enhance knowledgeand skills in special education instruction assessment andintervention.Advocate for the rights and needs of students withdisabilities promoting inclusive practices and equitable access toeducational opportunities.
