Summary:

Primarily provides pre-sales technical support for the development and implementation of complex products/applications/solutions. Uses in-depth product knowledge to provide technical expertise to sales staff and the customer through sales presentations and product demonstrations. Assists the sales staff in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and may prepare detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions. May create detailed design and implementation specifications for complex products/applications/solutions. May build a mini-application based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for client. May provide consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Field application/Solutions Engineer – High Speed Ethernet/IP

The person is responsible for supporting VIAVI’s solutions for R&D and manufacturing segments, mainly high speed ethernet/IP testing solutions in India. Takes responsibility of understanding customer’s real issues, demonstrating compelling VIAVI solution value, and satisfying customer needs.

The person will work closely with the sales team (direct and indirect) and be expected to manage opportunities, customer needs and issues with necessary resources in a proactive way. The responsibilities include:

Strong technical skills (protocols, test methods, etc) in telecom, enterprise and datacenter R&D, their enabling ecosystems, network, switch/router etc. and apply the knowledge to understand customer needs, application issues. Excellent understanding of Ethernet /IP protocols, data plane, control plane and application layer protocols. Understand real customer requirements. Set right expectation. Propose the right solution and demonstrate compelling value of VIAVI products. Work with early technology adopters and technology leaders to drive test methodologies and VIAVI test solutions. Provide feedback on customer needs and opportunities to sales teams and product divisions and contribute to their strategy and roadmap. Establish and communicate technology leadership - Present products, solutions, and technologies, such as at road shows/seminars in the region. Work closely with sales and product divisions to drive sales, sales strategies, actions, and solutions. Contribute to product enhancements - analyze gaps and propose action plans to fill it with sales teams and business units. Post-sales activities include solution development, technical presentations, design documentation creation, assisting with technical questions or concerns during the post-sales process. Programming Language experience in Python, TCL/TK etc. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, RFCs, technical procedures, and IEEE standards. Experience analyzing network traffic down to the packet level with tools such as Wireshark/protocol analyzers. In-depth knowledge of networking and internet technologies such as:

PCS, Ethernet/IP

Routing Technologies, OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, RSVP, LDP, IGMP.

10G to 800G ethernet

Cloud Computing

The role is intended to cover customers working in Optical transport and High-speed Ethernet/IP technologies in India. May occasionally require international travel to support customers outside India. Expect at least 40% of time forbusiness travel.

Technical Qualifications:

Must have a degree in Electronics & Communications engineering or equivalent. Having CCNA and CCIE certification is preferred. At least 5 years’ experience as a Field Application Engineer (or equivalent) / networking product development/testing (Test & measurement, Networking, semiconductor) Detailed understanding of enterprise /datacenter /telecom networking architecture and associated transport and IP protocols. Good Understanding and experience in using lab equipment such as Data Protocol Analyzers, Ethernet Traffic Generators, Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) etc is a must. Programming skills in Tcl & Python are preferred.

Ability to pick up new technical knowledge as products, technologies, markets, and applications as they evolve. Ability to build effective, healthy relationships with peers, supervisors, and customers. Ability to function as a member of a team and inspire teamwork around them.
