Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care Management

  • Ensure quality nursing care to all patients in the ward/department.
  • Maintain patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Monitor adherence to treatment plans, medication administration, and nursing procedures as per protocols.
  • Address patient complaints and escalate unresolved issues to higher authorities.

2. Staff Management

  • Supervise, guide, and evaluate the nursing staff and ward attendants.
  • Ensure proper duty rosters, leave planning, and staffing ratios as per NABH standards.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and orientation for new/junior staff.
  • Promote teamwork and maintain staff discipline.

3. Compliance with NABH Standards

  • Ensure documentation as per NABH guidelines (nursing records, consent forms, handover reports, incident reports).
  • Conduct regular audits of nursing care practices, patient files, and equipment checklists.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols (hand hygiene, biomedical waste management, isolation procedures).
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and contribute to corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).

4. Ward / Unit Management

  • Maintain ward cleanliness, safety, and availability of equipment & supplies.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of emergency drugs, crash cart, and biomedical equipment.
  • Supervise timely indent and stock management of medicines, consumables, and linen.
  • Coordinate with other departments (Housekeeping, Engineering, Pharmacy, Lab, etc.).

5. Training & Development

  • Organize CME, CNE (Continuing Nursing Education) programs for nursing staff.
  • Educate staff on NABH policies, SOPs, and new clinical guidelines.
  • Encourage staff participation in mock drills (fire safety, disaster management, code blue, etc.).

6. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain and verify ward statistics (admission, discharge, transfer, mortality, bed occupancy).
  • Ensure accurate reporting of incidents, medication errors, sentinel events.
  • Submit daily/weekly/monthly reports to HOD.
