Qualification & Experience:

  • B.Sc / M.Sc (Physics or Chemistry) or a diploma in any branch of engineering or technology
  • Diploma in Safety
  • Relevant Experience of 5 to 7 years, especially in Manufacturing
  • Experienced health, safety and environment professional who has held a HS&E position, preferably within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Broad knowledge of the aspects of effective HSE Management systems
  • Ability to work co-operatively with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements
  • Knowledge and skills to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace
  • Proficient in MS-Office

Job Profile:

• Investigation of all accidents, near misses and safety concerns within a defined window of time, including raising and closing of associated actions for improvement.

• Liaising with other departments to co-ordinate the completion of designated actions.

• Developing and communicating HS&E briefs and toolbox talks.

• Managing of First Aid team, including procedure enforcement and training requirements.

• Safe process development, including SOP development and training, TEC form requirement, cohesion with departments for establishing procedure, revision of existing standards.

• Managing risk assessment team and completion of risk assessments, including machine assessments (with maintenance and production engineering), revision of risk assessments from team, conducting own assessments as identified, revising existing assessments for robustness.

• Completion of Inductions development of new induction process.

• Undertake training sessions for empowerment and competency of others, including e-learning sessions, co-ordinating external providers (crane, Forklift, stacker, press).

• Carry out daily site inspections and follow up any safety concerns identified.

• Complete auditing of established process and follow up any non-conformances found.

• Co-ordination of Safety Rep team, including committee meetings, collation of audits, training, drive and motivating factors.

• Proactive in the development of safe systems of work and safe operation procedures.

• Full ownership of regular health and safety inspections including buildings, plant, equipment, services and fire precautions and arrangements.

• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and the policies of the organisation.

• Developing effective relationships at all levels, challenge bad practice, ensuring health and safety standards are met in line with the department objectives.

• Responsible in driving a positive health and safety culture through the development of competencies and behaviours throughout all the levels of the organisation.

• Support, and where necessary, implement permit to work procedures.

• Implement, develop and deliver in-house training programs to eliminate and reduce health and safety issues.

• Maintain statutory safety records ensuring that competent people make statutory safety returns, maintaining health and safety records required by the organisation.

• Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the team.

• Provide assistance and advice in the HS&E Manager's absence.
