Ab Initio Administrator

Role Overview:

An Ab Initio Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the Ab Initio ETL environment to ensure efficient, secure, and reliable data processing across enterprise systems. This role involves system configuration, performance tuning, job monitoring, and collaboration with development and support teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Environment Management

  • Install, configure, and maintain Ab Initio components including Co>Operating System, EME, and Control Center.

  • Apply patches, upgrades, and configuration changes to ensure system stability.

  • ETL Job Monitoring & Support

  • Monitor production ETL jobs for failures, performance degradation, and data discrepancies.

  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to Ab Initio components, infrastructure, and external dependencies.

  • Performance Optimization

  • Tune Ab Initio graphs and workflows to improve execution time and resource utilization.

  • Analyze logs and system metrics to identify and resolve bottlenecks.

  • Security & Access Control

  • Manage user access and implement security protocols within the Ab Initio environment.

  • Maintain audit trails and ensure compliance with data governance policies.

  • Automation & Scheduling

  • Schedule and automate ETL jobs using Control Center or tools like Autosys.

  • Develop automation scripts using Shell or Python for operational efficiency.

  • Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work with developers, data engineers, and business teams to support deployments and upgrades.

  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and support procedures2.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 510 years of experience in Ab Initio administration and ETL support.
  • Strong knowledge of Ab Initio tools (GDE, EME, Co>Operating System, Conduct IT).
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux, Shell scripting, and SQL.
  • Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong documentation and process improvement mindset.
