Head of Maintenance (Chemical Industry)

• Responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities- mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and infrastructure & to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations. Key duties include developing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, managing the maintenance budget, supervising the maintenance team, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations. This role requires managing equipment upkeep, troubleshooting complex issues, and coordinating maintenance projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance plans to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
• Implement a preventive maintenance management system that ensures continuous availability of the plant.
• Set and implement key performance indicators to ensure the performance of the plant is monitored and tracked.
• Manage the implementation of the maintenance plans in a manner that ensures timely delivery cost effectiveness and continuous improvement in respect to operational efficiency and reliability.
• Develop and manage the maintenance budget, track expenses, and oversee spare parts and materials inventory.
• Supervise and lead the maintenance team, including assigning tasks, providing training, setting priorities, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety procedures, legal regulations, and environmental standards, and promote a safe working environment.
• Continually review engineering operations, work systems, equipment and techniques and activities and generate improvement plans.
• Take responsibility for the planning and execution of plant shutdowns (to ensure shutdown works are executed in a timely and cost-effective manner).
• Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all plant equipment, such as reactors, boilers, and pumps.
• Diagnose and resolve complex maintenance issues to improve equipment reliability.
• Manage maintenance-related projects, including upgrades and installations, from planning to execution.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on maintenance activities, budgets, and performance to senior management.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify areas for improvement in maintenance processes and facility upkeep.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Bachelor's degree in chemical or a related engineering field with 15-22 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing or chemical industry environment, with several years in a leadership role.

2. Strong knowledge of relevant equipment, such as high-pressure reactors, boilers, and pumps.

3. Strong supervisory experience and maintenance KPI knowledge

4. Proficient in SAP and maintenance work processes

5. Skilled in budgeting, labor relations, and root cause analysis

6. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

7. Proficiency in developing and managing budgets and maintenance plans.

8. Experience with safety protocols and compliance in a chemical plant setting.
