Job Summary:

The Server Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and securing physical and virtual servers to ensure maximum performance and availability. This role involves proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, patch management, and backup operations to support critical business systems and applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Linux servers (physical and virtual).
  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and uptime using appropriate tools.
  • Perform regular server patching, updates, and security hardening.
  • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file servers, and group policies.
  • Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, OS, and network-related issues in coordination with other IT teams.
  • Manage virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Proxmox.
  • Ensure server security through firewalls, antivirus, and access control policies.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of server configurations, procedures, and change logs.
  • Collaborate with application, network, and security teams to optimize system performance.
  • Plan and execute server upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Server Administrator, Systems Administrator, or Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and/or Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS).
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and load balancing.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with backup solutions (Veeam, Acronis, Commvault, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or CompTIA Server+.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, PRTG).
  • Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Understanding of cybersecurity practices and compliance standards (ISO 27001, GDPR, etc.).
