KPMG's Incentives, Reliefs & Innovations team (IRI) is made up of tax, engineering, science, and technology specialists delivering expert advice to a broad range of clients across almost every industry sector. The IRI team works with companies of all sizes from almost every sector of the economy to identify their qualifying R&D activity, quantify it and help them obtain their R&D incentives, as well as working with clients to best leverage the Patent Box regime. The team consists of staff with a wide variety of skill sets all working together, from technical specialist including scientists, engineers, and IT experts to fully qualified accountants and tax advisers. As one of the largest teams in the industry in the UK, our continued investment in innovation advisory means that we seek information technology specialists to join us on the next exciting phase of our growth.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically astute software engineer with around 2-3 years of software design / development experience who is now looking to pivot into a pure consultancy role that does not require software programing but presents an exciting opportunity to directly enable the assessment of software R&D activities undertaken by some of the world's largest companies. 
Roles & responsibilities

We are recruiting for the Associate position in the UK Innovation Incentives and Reliefs team.

Working as Associate in this team, your responsibilities will include:



•Support highly-technical interactions with clients' senior technical architects and software developers to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and identify how aspects of projects meet the R&D Guidelines.

•Writing compelling technical project narratives to bring out the key technical factors of client projects to substantiate R&D claims.

•Application of problem-solving skills and critical thinking in project execution and delivery.

•Providing assistance in establishing and maintaining strong client relationships.

•To possess a keen desire to adapt and flex the existing conceptual knowledge in computer science to different software engineering topics.

Qualifications

Mandatory  technical & functional skills



•You will either have:

•Around 1-2.5 years of work experience in the IT industry as a software developer, ideally as a full-stack developer with an excellent grasp of core computer science concepts and feel comfortable in discussing such topics at a deep conceptual level.  OR

•Have a detailed working knowledge and around 1-2 years of work experience of the UK R&D tax legislation, and its application to information technology activities.

•

•Must have excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking to assist our clients in applying complex legislation to real life situations.

•

•Excellent communication skills are a must. You must feel comfortable discussing technical themes with clients in a personable and professional manner.

•

•Must be capable of producing high quality, professional documentation and reports for C-suite stakeholders within our clients.

Educational qualifications



•Bachelor of engineering or post-graduate degree, ideally in computer science or information technology, along with 2.5 years of IT industry experience in a software design / development role. OR

•Around 2 years of work experience in a similar UK R&D tax advisory role for software engineering claims.
