Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Purchase / Procurement Manager to lead and manage our complete procurement function. The ideal candidate will strategically source materials, develop supplier relationships, negotiate best commercial terms, and ensure timely procurement to support smooth production, projects, and organisational growth.

This role requires strong industry understanding, supplier network, negotiation expertise, and proven experience in managing procurement for manufacturing / engineering products.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the end-to-end procurement cycle

Develop, implement, and monitor procurement systems, SOPs, and policies

Identify, evaluate, and onboard qualified vendors and contractors

Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, credit, and delivery schedules

Monitor and ensure material availability within required timelines

Work closely with Production, Design, Projects, and Finance teams for material planning

Maintain vendor database, performance tracking, and supplier audits

Improve cost efficiency through strategic sourcing and long-term vendor agreements

Manage purchases for:

Structural steel, raw materials, components

Electrical & mechanical equipment

Fabrication and subcontracting services

Consumables and indirect materials

Control inventory levels and support stores team

Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards

Review and approve purchase orders, vendor bills, and documentation

Maintain transparent MIS and procurement tracking reports

Support import procurement, logistics & negotiation (if applicable)

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation & vendor management skills
  • Engineering industry procurement knowledge (preferably cranes, fabrication, heavy engineering)
  • Knowledge of steel, motors, gearboxes, electrical components, machined parts, etc.
  • Good understanding of material planning & production coordination
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and planning skills
  • Proficiency in ERP / purchase management systems
  • Strong communication & documentation skills & problem solving mindset

Experience & Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree (Mechanical / Industrial Engineering preferred)
  • MBA in Supply Chain / Materials Management (added advantage)
  • 3-5 years experience in procurement in a manufacturing / engineering industry
  • Experience in heavy engineering / cranes / capital equipment preferred
