Role summary

We are hiring a Purchase Manager to own end-to-end procurement of steel raw materials (carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, forgings, bars, plates, semifinished items) for machined components used in Oil & Gas. The ideal candidate has strong material knowledge (ASTM/API/AISI grades), hands-on supplier management experience and a proven track record of negotiating and securing high-quality, cost-effective supplies.

Role & responsibilities

  • Source and procure steel raw materials (carbon/alloy/stainless/duplex/super-duplex, forgings, blocks, plates) suitable for machined components used in Oil & Gas.
  • Ensure material compliance to industry standards (ASTM, API, AISI, EN, DIN, IS) and verify Mill Test Certificates (MTC).
  • Negotiate commercial terms, implement rate contracts and drive landed cost optimization.
  • Maintain optimum inventory (Min-Max, safety stock) to ensure zero stock-outs for production.
  • Conduct vendor identification, qualification, audits and performance reviews.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, QA, Production and Stores on material specifications, NDT, hardness and inspection requirements.
  • Track market trends and provide regular updates on steel prices, lead times and supply risks.
  • Support new product trials and sourcing for prototype/material trials.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Strong knowledge of materials used in machining: carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and relevant grades (e.g., A105/A182/4140/316 etc.) and machining/heat-treatment implications.
  • Experience with supplier negotiation, vendor development and PO lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Ms Dynamics) and MTC / NDT documentation.
  • Good analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
