Key ResponsibilitiesA. Patient Care Assistance

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, feeding, grooming, toileting, mobility.

  • Help in moving, positioning, and transferring patients safely.

  • Provide basic bedside care and comfort measures.

  • Assist in monitoring patient condition and promptly report changes to nursing staff.

B. Clinical Support Activities

  • Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, BP, respiration) as permitted.

  • Assist with specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).

  • Support nurses during procedures such as dressings, catheter care, IV setup (without administering).

  • Maintain stock of medical supplies, linens, and emergency equipment.

  • Assist in preparing patients for investigations, procedures, or surgery.

C. Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow hand hygiene and infection control protocols strictly.

  • Ensure isolation precautions are implemented as instructed.

  • Maintain cleanliness of patient areas, beds, and equipment.

  • Safely handle waste, linen, and sharps as per biomedical waste management guidelines.

D. Documentation & Communication

  • Record vital signs, intake/output, and basic observations in charts or electronic systems (as trained).

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.

  • Report any incidents, hazards, or patient concerns immediately to nursing staff.

  • Assist in updating unit records and maintaining orderly documentation.

E. Patient Support & Comfort

  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families.

  • Help patients with nutritional needs and feeding assistance.

  • Accompany patients to diagnostic departments safely.

  • Ensure dignity, privacy, and respect during all care activities.
