Chemical Inventory Specialist

The Chemical Inventory Specialist manages and tracks the chemical inventory for manufacturing sites. The Chemical Inventory Specialist reports to the Occupational Health Team Lead in the Chevron ENGINE in Bengaluru, India.
Key Responsibilities:
Chemical Request Review & Approval
-
Evaluate chemical requests for completeness, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and intended use location.
-
Review SDS to ensure it is current (not older than 3 years), verify approval status, and assess duration of chemical use.

Communicate with requesters regarding approval decisions or required revisions.
System Updates & Regulatory Compliance
-
Upload approved SDS to the SDS Online Tool and enter chemical data into ProSteward and the California Environmental Reporting System (CERS).

Maintain accurate records for regulatory programs including:
-
Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
-
Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)
-
Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act Section 313 (SARA 313)
-
Onsite Listing Database (OLD)
-
Risk Management Plan (RMP)
-
Toxics Release Inventory (TRI)
-
-
Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews for chemical-related requests and updates.
Annual Chemical Inventory Management
-
Assign and validate chemical inventory coordinators at each site.
-
Initiate annual inventory reviews between January and April, and prior to regulatory audits.
-
Support field verification of chemical names, locations, container types, and SDS currency.
-
Consolidate and validate field data to ensure accurate updates in applicable systems.
Regulatory Reporting & External Coordination
-
Support Tier II Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP) reporting.

Coordinate chemical-related reporting for external regulatory agencies such as:
-
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
-
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
-
American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM)
-

Ensure compliance with CERS protocols for California sites.
Stakeholder Communication
-
Notify local Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialists and other stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Waste Specialists) upon completion of chemical reviews.

Communicate final approval status to requesters via email or automated system notifications
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering
-
Relevant years of experience in 3-6 years demonstrated experience in managing Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and implementing chemical management programs.

Knowledge of chemical hazard classifications and relevant regulations within the oil and gas industry.
-
Technical understanding of chemical hazards, including physical, health, and environmental risks.
-
Proficiency in using product integrity tools and systems, such as SDS and MOC
-
Experience in chemical inventory digitally/physical and regulatory reporting for refinery operations.
-
Ability to work independently across multiple sites with minimal supervision.
-
Minimal to no travel required.
