Mechanical Design Engineer – Factory Automation Systems

Location: Bengaluru, India

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the concept, design, and detailing of automation machines, SPMs, and industrial equipment.

You will work closely with our Japanese design team and Indian automation engineers to develop 3D machine models, 2D fabrication drawings, and assembly layouts for manufacturing and integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design machine structures, automation mechanisms, and equipment enclosures using SolidWorks or CATIA.
  • Create detailed 3D models, 2D fabrication drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with automation, electrical, and control engineers to integrate actuators, sensors, pneumatic components, and cable routing.
  • Design tooling, jigs, fixtures, and motion mechanisms for automated systems.
  • Conduct design reviews and implement improvements based on Japanese design feedback and quality standards.
  • Support prototype assembly, testing, and troubleshooting at the shop floor level.
  • Ensure all designs meet safety, ergonomic, and maintenance requirements.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of machine design fundamentals, motion systems, and automation components.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or CATIA (mandatory); AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of mechanical assemblies, pneumatic layouts, and actuator mounting.
  • Good knowledge of industrial materials (SS, MS, aluminum, acrylic, and coated finishes).
  • Ability to produce precise 2D fabrication and assembly drawings with GD&T.
  • Basic communication skills in English (Japanese communication is an added advantage).

Preferred / Advantage Skills

  • Experience in factory automation, SPM design, or robot integration layouts.
  • Familiarity with control panel / enclosure design and mechanical–electrical interface.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards, ergonomic design, and machine guarding.
  • Exposure to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and assembly optimization practices.
