Position Overview

The PYP Coordinator serves as the pedagogical leader of the Primary Years Programme, working collaboratively with the school's academic leadership to ensure effective implementation, delivery, and evaluation of the IB PYP. The role requires strong instructional expertise, leadership capability, and a commitment to collaborative planning and continuous professional growth.

The coordinator acts as the key liaison between the school and the International Baccalaureate (IB), ensuring adherence to programme standards, documentation requirements, and the school's ongoing commitment to IB philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

A. Documentation & Programme Management

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge and promote effective use of all PYP documentation.
  • Ensure that all IB publications and PYP-related resources are available and accessible to staff.
  • Establish and maintain a complete record of PYP planners and other required documentation.
  • Publish, update, and communicate the school's Programme of Inquiry (POI).
  • Lead the periodic development and review of the school's curriculum documents, including POI and scope and sequence frameworks.
  • Ensure formulation and regular review of policies related to language, assessment, and teaching–learning practices.
  • Develop and oversee programme agreements that ensure equitable access for all students.
  • Guide the creation and maintenance of the school's IB action plan, as per IB guidelines.
  • Maintain an organized archive of PYP documents, including exhibition reports and year-on-year records.
  • Ensure that General Regulations: Primary Years Programme is shared with parents/legal guardians.
  • Ensure that Rules for IB World Schools: PYP is communicated to relevant staff.

B. Professional Development & Pedagogical Support

  • Support teaching teams in developing, refining, and documenting units of inquiry and individual student inquiries.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and pedagogical support to ensure high-quality planning, teaching, and assessment practices.
  • Lead and guide teachers and students involved in the PYP Exhibition, ensuring alignment with IB Exhibition guidelines.
  • Identify, recommend, and facilitate professional development opportunities for teachers.
  • Maintain detailed records of IB workshops, trainings, and professional learning participation.

C. Resource Planning & Management

  • Ensure resources support conceptual understanding, inquiry-based learning, and interdisciplinary links.
  • Recommend and procure appropriate teaching–learning resources to support PYP implementation.
  • Maintain and update a resource inventory to support efficient teacher collaboration.

D. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Ensure compliance with all IB requirements and programme standards.
  • Create and maintain systems for effective communication and collaboration among PYP staff.
  • Conduct parent orientation programmes, workshops, and PYP information sessions.
  • Publish relevant articles, updates, and programme highlights in newsletters or public communication channels.
  • Disseminate IB communications, updates, and curriculum developments to staff.
  • Prepare and submit all documentation required for authorization and evaluation visits.
  • Respond to IB requests (surveys, questionnaires, reports) in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the school's official liaison with the IB and the broader PYP community.
  • Promote and facilitate the use of the IB online platforms such as the OCC (Online Curriculum Centre).
  • Recommend exemplary teachers for IB curriculum development workshops and networking forums.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Education or relevant field.
  • Certified PYP teacher with minimum 3–5 years of IB PYP teaching experience.
  • Prior experience in teacher leadership, curriculum coordination, or academic management preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based pedagogy and IB philosophy.
  • Experience with collaborative planning and reflective teaching practices.
  • Proficiency in using IB platforms and documentation systems.

The time allotted for the PYP Coordinator role must adequately support:
