We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Underwriter to assess, verify, and process short-term personal loan applications. The role includes evaluating creditworthiness, identifying risk indicators, ensuring compliance with credit policies, and maintaining high quality underwriting standards. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of unsecured lending, financial analysis, and fraud detection.

Role & responsibilities

  1. Loan Evaluation & Assessment

  2. Review and underwrite personal loan applications as per defined credit norms.

  3. Analyze bank statements, income proofs, financial documents, and bureau reports (CIBIL/CRIF/Experian).
  4. Identify discrepancies, fraud indicators, and red flags in customer information and documentation.
  5. Ensure underwriting decisions are accurate, timely, and within assigned approval limits.

2. Policy Compliance & Risk Control

  • Ensure all underwriting decisions follow company policies, credit frameworks, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Recommend cases for escalation or exception to senior credit managers when needed.
  • Maintain strict adherence to KYC/AML norms and RBI guidelines.

3. Portfolio Quality Monitoring

  • Coordinate with risk and collection teams to improve loan quality and minimize losses.

4. Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with sales, operations, and verification teams for smooth file processing and verification checks.
  • Communicate clearly on approval conditions, additional requirements, or rejections.
  • Assist in training sales teams on documentation and credit norms (when required).

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in credit underwriting for unsecured personal loans, preferably short-term loans.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong financial and analytical evaluation skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting credit bureau reports.
  • Understanding of regulatory norms including KYC, AML, and RBI guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and underwriting tools. Good communication and decision-making abilities.
