Position Title: System Engineer

Reporting To: Manager – Networks

Job Summary

The System Administrator (System Engineer) is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, and network infrastructure. The role involves installing and upgrading hardware/software, managing virtualization environments, ensuring system availability, resolving technical issues, and supporting IT operations to minimize downtime and meet business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain, configure, and ensure reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization platforms.
  2. Install, configure, and upgrade hardware, operating systems, and software; manage virtual servers and automation processes.
  3. Troubleshoot hardware and software issues by running diagnostics, documenting problems, prioritizing incidents, and assessing business impact.
  4. Prepare and maintain documentation and technical specifications for IT infrastructure planning, upgrades, and implementations.
  5. Perform or manage regular backups and implement data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  6. Lead desktop and helpdesk support activities, ensuring timely resolution of issues with minimal disruption.
  7. Handle capacity planning, storage management, and database performance monitoring.
  8. Raise and track trouble tickets with OEMs and third-party vendors as per agreed SLAs.
  9. Ensure uptime of allocated IP networks and security devices; coordinate with L2/L3 support teams and escalate issues as required.
  10. Schedule system security scans and monitor antivirus logs from the central management console.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. 2 - 3 years of experience in system, network, or database administration.
  3. Relevant certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or networking technologies are an added advantage.
  4. Working knowledge of virtualization platforms (XenServer or equivalent).
  5. Strong understanding of systems, networking hardware/software, and networking protocols.
  6. Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  7. Proven experience in developing and implementing IT strategies and operational plans.
  8. Good knowledge of helpdesk operations, IT best practices, security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery.

  1. Willingness to work in a 24/7 support environment.
  2. Weekly offs may change based on roster and shift requirements.

  4. System Availability/Uptime Percentage.
  5. Number of Unsolved Tickets per Employee.
  6. Average Handle Time (AHT).
  7. Total Tickets vs. Open Tickets.
