Job description

The Deputy Project Manager will oversee the planning, design, implementation, and management of marine engineering projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, safety standards, timelines, and budgetary requirements. Also to oversee marine technical services involving mechanical and electrical works onboard ships.

This role requires strong project management skills combined with technical expertise in marine engineering, coordinating with stakeholders, contractors, and team members to ensure smooth project execution from conception through completion.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution:
Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of marine engineering projects, ensuring all phases align with project goals and requirements.

Design & Technical Review:
Oversee the design, technical specifications, and compliance standards; review and provide guidance on designs for marine structures, systems, and vessels.

Stakeholder Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and stakeholders; facilitate regular updates and project status meetings.

Risk Assessment & Management:
Identify potential project risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and outcomes.

Budget & Cost Control:
Develop and manage project budgets; monitor costs, allocate resources effectively, and ensure projects remain within financial constraints.

Quality Assurance:
Establish and oversee quality assurance processes, ensuring that project deliverables meet industry standards, specifications, and client expectations.

Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, mentor, and manage the project team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.

Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain project documentation, including technical drawings, schedules, budget reports, and status updates, and present detailed reports to stakeholders.

Compliance & Safety Standards:
Ensure all projects adhere to relevant environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:
Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, or related engineering discipline. Master's degree or professional certifications (such as PMP) are a plus.

Experience:
Maximum of 5-7 years of experience in marine engineering and project management, with a strong background in large-scale marine or offshore projects.

Project Management:
Demonstrated ability in managing end-to-end projects, including budget oversight, scheduling, and resource management.

Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with team members, clients, and external stakeholders.

Problem-Solving:
Proven track record in identifying issues and proactively developing solutions within complex engineering environments.

Travel:
Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations, IMO conventions, and class society requirements.
  • Knowledge of shipboard mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Understanding of marine safety and environmental compliance standards.
