BIM Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Modelling of electrical services using Revit software
• Coordination of electrical services with all other trade services such as Architecture, Structure, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, etc.
• Ensuring electrical services modeling is in accordance with the specified BIM standards & clients requirements
• Prepares detailed drawings, layouts and working plans as required based on verbal instructions, rough notes, engineering drawings/technical submittals and rough sketches to ensure the best installation outcome.
• Interacts and collaborates with the project team to develop model efficiently and accurately, by maintaining any time and schedule constraints.
• Follow ECS departmental procedures and standards for drawing development including document and quality control procedures.
• Enter all pertinent technical details using spread sheets or other databases as required; check and review schedules before they are submitted.
• Develop models and drawings, showing the necessary details and assemblies of a wide variety of electrical and mechanical equipment with details such as dimensions, fastening methods, slab coordinates and other required information.
• Develop installation drawings for a wide range of electrical systems such as power distribution systems and grounding, lighting and lighting control systems, fire alarm and security systems, building automation systems, structured cabling, alternative energy, slab and surface installations, riser drawings, duct banks, etc.
• Navigate through and interpret structural, architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings for various occupancy types and spaces
• Understand and comply with the project schedule to submit deliverables and implement changes and revisions as required.
• Perform technical calculations including and not limited to voltage drop, conduit fill, etc.
• Continuously explore new technologies and improve working methodologies. Attending training sessions and conducting trainings as and when required.
• Proactively refer to the Team leader in case of discrepancies, missing information, or technical problems.
• Review design drawings & QAQC of project deliverables to ensure requirements are met.
• Ability to work on other services like Mechanical/Plumbing/Fire-fighting etc. based on the client/organization needs.
• Open to visit other operational office/client site on short notice, if required.
• Ensuring to adapt all necessary certification standards as per organization needs (like ISO 9001:2015 standards).
• Assist junior colleagues when needed.

Preferred candidate profile

• Degree in relevant discipline (Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering)
• Excellent communication Skills.
• 4+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering design concepts, practices, & procedures
• 4+ experience with Autodesk Revit MEP, Autocad MEP and Naviswork is mandatory
• Experience in electrical drawings creation/documentation
• Strong understanding of electrical construction, installation methods, technologies, planning and management, commissioning process, drafting standards, etc.
• Strong knowledge of all electrical systems from both the design and installation perspectives including: Power distribution, fire safety systems, access control and CCTV, structured cabling, healthcare electrical systems, AV systems, building automation, motor control systems, etc.
• Experience in parametric Revit family creation is mandatory
• Must be willing to work in a construction environment as required.
• Exposure to 4D / 5D BIM related activities is desirable.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction, installation methods, technologies, planning and management, commissioning process, drafting standards, etc.
• ISO knowledge is mandatory.
• Exposure to International standard projects is desirable.
• Must have a passport
• Working knowledge of the latest Ontario and Canadian electrical codes are desirable
• Working knowledge of Bulletins and Ontario Building Code (OBC), LEED construction, CAN/ULC and other pertinent standards are desirable.
