Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Welding Inspection:

  • Inspect welds to ensure compliance with welding procedures, drawings, and applicable standards (AWS, ASME, ISO).
  • Conduct visual welding inspections (VT) and ensure proper welding parameters (heat input, electrode type, welding sequence).
  • Verify welder qualifications and review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) & Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
  • Identify welding defects (porosity, cracks, undercut, etc.) and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Work closely with welding engineers to resolve welding-related quality issues.

2. Dimensional Inspection:

  • Perform dimensional checks of fabricated components using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMM, gauges).
  • Verify component tolerances as per engineering drawings and industry standards.
  • Ensure proper alignment, straightness, flatness, and overall assembly accuracy before final dispatch.
  • Maintain records of dimensional inspection reports and issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) when required.

3. NDT Inspection (Non-Destructive Testing):

  • Conduct NDT inspections such as VT (Visual Testing), PT (Penetrant Testing), MT (Magnetic Particle Testing), UT (Ultrasonic Testing), RT (Radiographic Testing) as per project requirements.
  • Review NDT results, evaluate indications, and ensure compliance with standards like ASME Section V, API, and ISO.
  • Coordinate with third-party NDT inspectors and regulatory bodies when required.
  • Ensure NDT equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

4. Painting & Coating Inspection:

  • Inspect surface preparation, blasting, and coating applications per specifications (SSPC, NACE, ISO).
  • Verify coating thickness, adhesion, and curing as per project and environmental conditions.
  • Conduct holiday testing, salt contamination checks, and visual appearance inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with painting and corrosion protection requirements.

5. Quality Assurance & Documentation:

  • Develop and maintain Quality Control Plans (QCP), Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), and Method Statements.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, and other relevant quality standards.
  • Prepare inspection reports, NCRs, and corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Coordinate with clients, third-party inspectors, and regulatory agencies for inspections and approvals.

6. Continuous Improvement & Compliance:

  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA) for quality deviations.
  • Train production teams on quality procedures, welding techniques, and inspection standards.
  • Ensure workplace safety, following health and safety regulations in all quality-related activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of QA QC experience in the fabrication industry, focusing on welding, NDT, dimensional, and painting inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards such as ASME, AWS, API, ISO, SSPC, and NACE.
  • Hands-on experience with measuring instruments and NDT techniques.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, WPS, and PQR.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Certifications:

  • AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or CSWIP 3.1/3.2
  • ASNT Level II/III (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) or ISO 9712 NDT certification
  • NACE or FROSIO certification for painting inspection
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification is a plus
  • Experience using quality management software and ERP systems.
