The role is with a leading General Insurance Company.

Designation: Senior Manager - Affinity Underwriter.

Reporting to - Portfolio Head, Digital Business.

Work Days: 5.

Responsibilities

  • Driving the underwriting strategy formulation and setting up processes for the function
  • Preparation of product policy wordings, underwriting guidelines, rating structure & schedule & other relevant documents for filing of products with IRDA
  • Interacting with Marketing, Claims and Actuarial Team for review/follow-up and finalising underwriting guidelines for all products
  • Coordinating with technology teams for maintaining the system & new requirements
  • Product development as per customer requirements, market research and improving the effectiveness of existing products
  • Contributing in the growth of the business by regular interactions with brokers and Intermediaries.
  • Analysing the performance of general insurance products at regular intervals and taking proactive actions to control & normalise the portfolio in consultation with the sales and claims team.
  • Developing a monitoring system for underwriting control and enforcement of risk acceptance discipline
  • Preparing reports for the Management Committee at regular intervals on the performance of the product portfolio and fine-tuning operations as per the business requirements
  • Analysing the incurred claims ratio, reviewing the portfolio and taking proactive action for loss control measures
  • To classify the risks into acceptable and unacceptable categories and communicate the declined risks list in each line of business.
  • To arrive at an acceptable portfolio mix, between Low, Medium and High Hazard Risks
  • Quality and timely response - Adherence to TAT for quote submission and quality
  • Providing technical leadership, direction, governance, challenge, support, guidance and advice to Sales and Underwriting colleagues to deliver market-leading products, secure profitable business and develop the underwriting function in line with the global Underwriting strategy
  • Developing and implementing initiatives to manage loss ratio, developing tools to monitor and subsequently monitor KPIs like: GWP, NWP, Underwriting Loss Ratio, Financial Loss Ratio, Attritional Loss Ratio, Large and Weather Loss Ratio, Claim movements, Prior Year impacts in Current Year results, Rate plan, Retention, Actual Price vs. Technical Price, Market rates, performance and insight
