Boiler Pressure Parts & Piping Engineering

• Role Summary

Lead the basic engineering development for ultra-supercritical boiler pressure parts, including arrangement of tubes, separators, headers and associated piping systems for ensuring the integrity of ultra- supercritical boiler components that are subjected to pressure, as developed by pressure part engineers. Oversee and coordinate with other internal teams or third-party/consultant teams responsible for detailed engineering of boiler pressure parts and boiler critical piping. Review and validate all deliverables (incl. third-party deliverables) to ensure compliance with specifications, interface requirements, manufacturability, safety regulations and performance standards.

Ensure that the engineered systems are fit for use and interface seamlessly with other plant systems to ensure reliability throughout the plant lifecycle.

• Key Responsibilities
• Review Pressure Part Design, Analysis & PP Layout Engineering:
• Review pressure part layout as per process data sheet and in accordance with engineering standards and manufacturing/ layout requirement.
• Design boiler pressure parts according to relevant codes and standards (e.g., IBR, ASME, EN).
• Review & guide stress analysis and related calculations to ensure component integrity under various operating and transient conditions.
• Review of appropriate materials for pressure parts based on temperature, pressure, creep and manufacturability requirements.
• Review and validate detailed fabrication drawings, bill of materials and specifications for accuracy, completeness and constructability.
• Develop and maintain design basis documents, ensuring alignment with project specifications and regulatory standards.
• Compliance & Safety:
• Ensure design compliance with applicable safety regulations, statutory requirements and industry standards (like IBR), international code and environmental policies.
• Perform systemic design reviews and quality checks to ensure adherence to standards.
• Contribute to safety assessments, hazard identification and risk analysis for boiler systems to proactively mitigate operational and construction-related risks.
• Collaboration & Support:
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, installation and maintenance teams, ensuring design intent is maintained during execution.
• Collaborate with engineers from other sections (Process, Layout, Structural, Fuel System, Ducting, Electrical and C&I) as well as designers and project managers to ensure seamless integration throughout the design and construction process and to resolve interface issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues arising during manufacturing, installation, commissioning, or plant operation.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain complete and accurate design calculations, drawings and technical documents required for regulatory and code compliance.
• Ensure the quality and completeness of reports on design performance & material selection.
• Participate in HAZOP/safety reviews, layout review meetings and technical discussions/ clarifications with manufacturers and other equipment OEMs.
• Facilitate the review and approval of system-level documentation, including P&IDs, equipment datasheets, GA drawings, system descriptions and logic diagrams.
• Documenting design changes and modifications:
• Review pressure part designs to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable industry codes and contractual requirements.
• Verify proper integration of auxiliary systems within the boiler, ensuring functional compatibility and maintainability.
• Provide technical oversight of fabrication & hydro testing (HT) of pressure parts & components.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks during early design stages through proactive implementation of preventive measures.
• Support erection and commissioning teams with technical inputs and resolution of issues.
• Review and maintain systematic records of comments, approvals, deviations and changes pertaining to auxiliary system engineering.
• Experience & Expertise:
• Expertise in Pressure part layout & design, strength of materials & integration of auxiliary systems
• Preferred: Experience of executing Pressure Parts Engineering for at least 2 ultra-supercritical technology-based projects engineering.
• Skilled in interpreting process data sheets, P&IDs, control logic, 3D layouts & installation drawings.
• Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and capable of reviewing FEA results for stress analysis; experienced in developing pressure part layouts.
• In-depth familiarity with boiler design codes and standards (IBR, ASME Section I, or equivalent).
• Educational Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
