About the Role 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior MySQL Database Administrator to join our team and support/operate the transformation of traditional database environments into modern, cloud-native architectures. This role focuses on MySQL as the primary DBMS, with deep expertise in replication, performance tuning, and high availability, and strong experience in Azure Cloud, particularly Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server.

You will collaborate with SREs, developers, and architects to design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient database solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps methodologies. This is a hands-on role with a strong emphasis on automation, observability, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:  

• Design, implement, and maintain MySQL database environments across on-prem and cloud platforms (Azure).

• Conduct migration efforts from on-prem MySQL to both Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server and Ubuntu Server VMs (IaaS), ensuring zero downtime and optimal performance.

• Support and actively participate in an upcoming migration of Database VMs from MYSQL version 8.0 previous LTS to current LTS version 8.4.

• Architect and implement HA/DR strategies, including replication, clustering, and backup/recovery solutions using tools like Percona XtraBackup and Azure Disk Snapshot based backups.

• Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions, and other DevOps tools such as N8N.

• Monitor and optimize database performance, availability, and cost using modern observability platforms (e.g., Grafana, DataDog, ELK, Splunk).

• Ensure database security through access controls, encryption, and compliance best practices.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support development and production environments.

• Provide on-call support for critical database issues and participate in incident response and root cause analysis. 24x7 availability for on-call rotation is expected

• Maintain documentation, standards, and best practices for database operations and architecture.

Requirement:

• 7+ years of hands-on experience as a MySQL DBA in Linux/Unix environments.

• Expert-level knowledge of MySQL 5.6, 5.7, 8.0 and 8.4, including replication, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security administration.

• Proven experience with Azure Cloud, especially Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server, and general IaaS/PaaS database deployments.

• Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, Golang, or similar.

• Experience with DevOps tools: Terraform, Ansible, Chef, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.

• Experience with ETL processes, data warehousing, and disk system performance tuning.

• Knowledge of other databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB/CosmosDB) is a plus.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive mindset.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• MySQL Certification (Oracle or Percona).

• Experience with cloud-native database monitoring and alerting.

• Familiarity with multi-region replication strategies and enterprise-grade database architectures.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
