Role & responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments to optimize microbial culture conditions (e.g., media composition, temperature, pH) for growth, yield, and desired product formation.
  • Isolate, identify, and characterize novel microbial strains with potential for use in various applications.
  • Develop and implement robust culture maintenance strategies to preserve microbial viability and genetic stability over time.
  • Utilize a range of microbiological and molecular biology techniques, including aseptic technique, plating, microscopy, selection, mutation, screening, PCR, and sequencing, for culture development and analysis.
  • Perform routine and specialized microbiological testing on cultures and samples to assess quality, purity, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to microbial culture development and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental procedures, observations, and results in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and other relevant quality standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product development, quality assurance, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless transition of microbial cultures from development to production.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements and trends in microbial culture technology, research, and scientific literature.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good experience with laboratory and industrial fermenters.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of microbial physiology, metabolism, and genetics.

Preferred candidate profile

  • & Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced microbial culture technologies like bioreactors or fermentation systems.
  • Experience in the scale-up and optimization of microbial processes for industrial applications.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics tools for microbial genomics and metagenomics analysis.
  • A track record of publications or presentations in microbiology or related fields.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in microbial culture development, preferably in an industrial or research setting.
