We are seeking a skilled and driven Flight Test Engineer to join our expanding team and contribute to the success of our eVTOL program.
About the role:
Contribute to the planning, execution, and analysis of flight test campaigns for Sarla Aviation's eVTOL program. This role requires strong operational planning capability, hands-on experience with system validation, and the ability to extrapolate knowledge from prior engineering and testing environments for effective application to complex eVTOL systems and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Test Planning & Risk Management
Develop comprehensive flight test plans, schedules, and operational workflows aligned with program milestones and safety objectives.
Participate in test readiness reviews to assess system maturity and team preparedness.
Conduct hazard analyses and risk assessments, integrating mitigation strategies to ensure safe and efficient test operations.
Factor in operational and regulatory requirements when designing test plans and procedures.
2. Aircraft & System Readiness
Coordinate with engineering teams to verify aircraft configurations and software baselines ahead of test events.
Oversee pre-flight readiness activities and manage logistical requirements at test sites, including spares, tools, and ground support equipment.
Support hardware and software validation efforts through bench testing and system-level checks to confirm readiness for flight.
3. Test Execution & Validation
Lead or assist with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Pilot-in-the-Loop (PiL), and other bench tests to validate system functionality.
Execute pre-flight and post-flight inspections and operational checklists during live testing.
Monitor telemetry during flight tests, analyze real-time data, and provide inputs for test progression decisions.
Uphold safety protocols and ensure a controlled, compliant environment during test activities.
4. Post-Test Analysis & Reporting
Extract, organize, and analyze flight test data using Excel, Python, MATLAB, or other similar tools.
Document test outcomes, lessons learned, and provide recommendations for process refinement and product development.
Participate in post-flight debrief sessions with cross-functional teams to review results and improve future testing strategies.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
2–3 years of experience in flight testing, system integration, or operational planning within complex engineering environments.
Strong understanding of operational frameworks for flight test processes, readiness reviews, and risk management.
Familiarity with Indian and international regulatory frameworks governing certification and operations for advanced air systems.
Proficiency in Excel, Python, MATLAB, or other similar tools for data handling and analysis.
Possession of a DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) for Small/Medium drones is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Flexibility to work in dynamic test environments with variable schedules and willingness to relocate as per program needs.
Physically capable of supporting outdoor test activities and field operations.
Strong collaboration and communication skills for interfacing with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Commitment to safety, quality, and operational discipline in high-paced environments.
