Key Responsibilities1. Inpatient Billing Operations

  • Prepare, review, and finalize inpatient (IP) bills with complete accuracy.

  • Ensure timely posting of charges for procedures, investigations, room rent, pharmacy, consumables, and nursing services.

  • Monitor daily billing updates and coordinate with departments to prevent pending or missing charges.

  • Handle pre-authorizations, approvals, and insurance-related documentation.

2. Patient Care & Support

  • Act as the primary point of contact for IP patients and their families regarding billing queries.

  • Provide clear explanations of bill components, insurance coverage, and financial responsibilities.

  • Manage escalated patient concerns professionally and ensure timely resolution.

  • Ensure a patient-friendly experience while maintaining hospital policies.

3. Coordination & Communication

  • Liaise with nursing, pharmacy, radiology, and other clinical departments for charge verification.

  • Coordinate with TPA/Insurance teams for document submission, approvals, and final settlement.

  • Communicate discharge billing status with the ward and doctors to ensure smooth patient flow.

4. Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure adherence to hospital billing protocols, statutory regulations, and insurance guidelines.

  • Conduct bill audits to identify errors, discrepancies, or process gaps.

  • Maintain accurate records and prepare periodic billing reports.

5. Team Support & Leadership

  • Guide Junior Patient Care Officers in billing procedures and patient handling.

  • Support training initiatives for new staff on billing processes and systems.

  • Assist the supervisor in workflow optimization and process improvement.

  • Strong knowledge of IP billing, hospital tariffs, and insurance workflows.

  • Excellent communication and patient-handling skills.

  • Attention to detail with high accuracy in billing data.

  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations and resolve conflicts.

  • Proficiency in HIS (Hospital Information System) and billing software.

  • Strong coordination and time-management skills.
