Level 1 (L1) SOC Engineer

Position Title: SOC Engineer – Level 1

Location: UPPCL SOC, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Reports To: SOC Shift Lead / SOC Manager

Type: Onsite (24x7 shift rotation)

1. Role Overview:

L1 SOC Engineer is responsible for real-time monitoring, initial triage, and incident reporting of security alerts generated by SIEM and other security tools within the UPPCL SOC environment. They serve as the first line of defense in identifying potential security threats and escalating them appropriately.

2. Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuous 24x7 monitoring of security events from SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and other monitoring tools.
  • Perform initial triage and categorization of alerts, identify false positives, and escalate validated incidents to L2 engineers.
  • Document all security alerts, events, and incidents accurately in the SOC ticketing system.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for incident response and escalation.
  • Maintain awareness of ongoing incidents and assist in providing situational updates.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on alerts and incidents.
  • Support vulnerability scan reviews and asset monitoring activities.
  • Participate in daily shift handovers and maintain detailed shift logs.
  • Ensure compliance with UPPCL SOC security policies and incident response processes.

3. Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in IT/SOC/NOC operations or cybersecurity monitoring.
  • Basic understanding of:
    • SIEM platforms (e.g., QRadar, Splunk, LogRhythm, etc.)
    • Firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint security, proxy, and antivirus systems.
    • Network protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.
  • Ability to identify anomalies, phishing attempts, and suspicious network behaviour.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Relevant certification preferred (e.g., CompTIA Security , CCNA, CEH – beginner level).

4. Shift & Working Conditions:

  • 24x7 rotational shifts (morning, evening, night).
  • Must be available for weekends and public holiday shifts as per roster.
