Level 2 (L2) SOC Engineer

Position Title: SOC Engineer – Level 2

Location: UPPCL SOC, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Reports To: SOC Lead / SOC Manager

Type: Onsite (24x7 shift rotation or general shift as per roster)

1. Role Overview:

L2 SOC Engineer acts as the second line of defense for cybersecurity operations within the UPPCL SOC. They perform deep-dive analysis, incident validation, containment coordination, and incident response activities escalated by L1 engineers. They also ensure tuning of detection rules and optimization of the SOC environment.

2. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed analysis and validation of escalated incidents from L1 engineers.
  • Perform threat hunting and correlation of multiple data sources to detect complex attacks.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and service teams for incident containment and remediation.
  • Fine-tune SIEM correlation rules, alert thresholds, and dashboards to improve accuracy.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for confirmed incidents.
  • Manage and monitor vulnerability assessment reports, patch management follow-ups, and compliance tracking.
  • Assist in playbook creation, process documentation, and continuous improvement of SOC procedures.
  • Provide mentorship and technical support to L1 SOC engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports, dashboards, and incident summaries for UPPCL management and CISO.
  • Support forensic data collection and evidence preservation as per defined process.

3. Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • 3–6 years of experience in SOC operations, incident response, or network security.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • SIEM platforms (QRadar, Splunk, ArcSight, etc.)
    • Threat intelligence platforms, malware analysis tools, and EDR solutions.
    • Common attack vectors, MITRE ATT&CK framework, and threat detection techniques.
  • Strong skills in log analysis, threat correlation, and incident lifecycle management.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams (network, system, application, OEM, vendor).
  • Certifications preferred: CEH, ECSA, CompTIA CySA , CCNP Security, or Splunk Certified Analyst.

4. Shift & Working Conditions:

  • May work in rotational or fixed shifts as per SOC operations.
  • Should be available for incident escalations and emergency response outside shift hours if required.
