Job Description:

The Indexer is responsible for creating accurate, consistent, and user-friendly indexes for books, journals, and digital publications. The role involves analysing content structure, identifying key concepts, and generating indexes that enhance discoverability and reader navigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review manuscripts and identify main topics, themes, and keywords.
  • Create comprehensive and structured indexes following publisher or author guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance of entries and cross-references.
  • Collaborate with editors, authors, and production teams to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Use specialized indexing tools or software for print and digital outputs.

Required Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent command of language and subject comprehension.
  • Familiarity with indexing standards (e.g., ISO 999) and publishing workflows.
  • Experience with indexing software (e.g., CINDEX, SKY Index, Macrex) preferred.
