A Senior Executive of Accounts & Finance who manages project accounts is primarily responsible for the financial health, reporting, and compliance of specific projects. Key duties extend beyond general accounting to include specialized project cost tracking, budgeting, and variance analysis.

Project Cost Accounting: Managing all aspects of job costing, including tracking project-related expenses, labor, and materials to ensure accurate financial records for each project.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Assisting in the preparation of project-specific budgets and financial forecasts. This includes monitoring actual expenditures against budgeted amounts and providing analysis of deviations to project managers and senior management.

Financial Reporting: Preparing and distributing regular financial reports, such as Project Status Reports, Work-in-Process (WIP) reports, and revenue variance analysis.

Billing and Accounts Receivable: Understanding project-specific billing requirements (e.g., Time & Materials, Fixed Price) and overseeing the timely generation of invoices and the collection of payments.

Compliance and Auditing: Ensuring all project accounting activities comply with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and internal control procedures. This role also coordinates documentation for internal and external project audits.

Financial Analysis: Analyzing project financial data to identify trends, assess profitability, and recommend cost-reducing solutions or process improvements.

Stakeholder Communication: Liaising with project managers, clients, and senior leadership to provide financial insights, address concerns, and support strategic decision-making regarding project viability and performance.

Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve financial operations and implementing efficient systems and procedures for project accounting, potentially including the use of specific project management or ERP software.
