Purpose of the role –

The role is responsible for managing the global operations & process excellence for Group Management Reporting. Role covers below process areas:

  • Master Data Management
  • Cost Allocations
  • Financial & Management Reporting Reconciliations
  • Monthly Group Management Reporting submissions
  • Data hygiene checks in compliance to SCOA mandate
  • Disposal & Acquisition Reporting
  • Annual changes to reporting requirements including restatements
  • Controls in processes
  • Operational efficiencies amongst Operating Centres & Third-Party Service Providers

Main Accountabilities –

The Global Lead will not only be the global thought leader on the design of leading-edge capabilities but will also own the deployment and business as usual operations of these capabilities. This is a global leadership role that requires the ability to take both a strategic perspective (thought leadership) as well as be a deep expert on the subject matter and be able to run management reporting operations with a large team of inhouse as well as outsourced service providers. The role specifically includes the following:

a). Leadership on design and implementation of Management Reporting Capabilities. This will

include the following:

  • Design leading edge global process, tech and organisational capabilities model that enables delivery of 1st quartile on costs and service levels, while ensuring robust controls
  • Lead implementation & deployment of these capabilities across Unilever
  • Owner of Service delivery framework which details the governance and ways of working of the Unilever Management Reporting across business teams, in-house operations team and outsourced service delivery partner teams
  • Actively support business transformation initiatives (such as Disposals, M&A etc) by leading the change impacts on management reporting

b). Operational Excellence:

  • Overall accountability to lead on ensuring timely and accurate monthly closing of books & high-quality reporting, in collaboration with cross functional teams (i.e. IT / Master Data / Financial Reporting / Global Controllers etc)
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to the signed off Global model for Management Reporting
  • Overall accountability for outsourced service provider performance in delivering on time and in full month end close

c). Talent & People Development:

  • This role is a people leadership role. Therefore, a critical part of this role is to foster and develop high quality skills in both the Unilever as well as the outsourced provider teams on management reporting capabilities and operations.

Key Skills & Competencies –

The successful candidate for this role will bring an ideal mix of experience across the core areas of finance operations, a deep understanding of management & financial reporting in a global multinational (preferably FMCG) and have the ability to lead digital transformations. S/he must have managed functions or teams at global scale and must have successfully influenced senior stakeholders. Key skills and proficiencies required for this role are:

  • Qualified Accountant or an equivalent Business Management degree in finance and accounts with 12 to 15 years of overall experience in Financial Accounting & Management Reporting
  • E2E subject expertise & thought leadership on Financial and Management Reporting (including book close processes) in a large multinational (FMCG profile in SAP based environment) including working knowledge of related systems configurations
  • Demonstrable experience of leading large diverse teams having a global footprint
  • Good understanding of managing & governing large, outsourced service provider teams
  • Ability to lead global capability development & business transformation projects in the subject area
  • Passion for performance: Ability to deal with high pressures to ensure Unilever meets its reporting timelines on time and in full month after month in a volatile environment.
  • Organizational influencing: The role needs to be able to intervene and get things done at a senior level in the organisation, which requires a good understanding of different stakeholders.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to cut through processes and systems complexity to come up with business relevant solutions
