Job Title: Manager - Finance Operatons

Purpose of the role

Global Finance is integral to HSBC's purpose and strategy, playing a valued role in managing finances and costs and deploying capital in the most effective way. Finance operations (Fin Ops) is core to Global Finance and provides a variety of financial support services to In-Country teams across the HSBC Group entities and subsidiaries.  

The role is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting in compliance with regulatory standards. The role holder will primarily be accountable for Severance process, audit readiness, and strengthening the control environment. It also involves partnering with upstream and downstream teams, driving end-to-end process reviews, and other improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.

This role is responsible to support key areas highlighted below:

Rollout the Severance cost file to all legal entities on WD-2Ensuring correct accounting by Legal entities and reporting for the Severance Costs across HSBC Group Financial accounting teams. This will be achieved through reconciliations, review and Challenge process, executing Controls across finance, escalations and exception management.Support Controls and monitoring: the role involves driving the monthly and quarterly reconciliation between SARACEN reported numbers and Severance file, ensuring that all the cost pertaining to severance are booked and completed on time. It requires close coordination with global teams to obtain detailed explanation for variances and escalate as appropriate.Ensure 100% documentation (e.g. Reasons for variances, SOPs, audit observations etc.)Engagement in process improvement and automation initiatives

In this role, you will:

Evaluate the RET input and responsible for Sharing the RET file to all the Legal entity financial controllersDevise strategic approach for enabling timely and accurate delivery, meeting agreed SLAs and internal timelines.Take measures to provide guidance on the cost booking, in line with reporting standards.Responsible for driving the monthly and quarterly SARACEN vs RET reconciliation processResponsible for ensuring compliance with applicable financial and regulatory standards and timelines.Responsible for maintaining detailed analysis on reconciliation and ensure high variances are followed up and escalated wherever requiredConduct operations with business units and finance counterparts to resolve queries and take measures to provide high-quality service.Responsible for participating in end-to-end process reviews to identify and resolve inefficiencies and control gaps.Extend strategic support to enable documentation and execution of controls in order to strengthen the control environment.Responsible for tracking and investigating process issues; perform root cause analysis and enable timely resolution.Collaborate with stakeholders for documentation issues, propose corrective actions, and follow up until closure.Liaise with upstream teams (e.g., data providers, operations) and downstream users (e.g., reporting, compliance) to ensure maintenance data quality and process alignment.Escalate process dependencies or roadblocks and enable resolution with cross-functional teams.Responsible for coordinating audit requests by preparing supporting documents and responding to audit queries.Responsible for ensuring compliance with audit timelines and participate in implementing action plans to close audit findings.Identify process improvement opportunities and formulate strategic ideas for simplification and efficiency gains.Responsible for ensuring timely update and maintenance of RCAs, BIAs, PLAs and ensuring all other documents like the SOPs are in place and updated.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities for Automation and Data Analytics:

Responsible for serving as the Analytics Lead for financial accounting team, collaborating with Business Partners to deliver insightful, data-driven solutions that support strategic decisions and enhance business performance.Take measures to provide analytics thought leadership with a deep understanding of problem statement and use of best-in-class technical solution – ranging from simple transformation concepts to complex data science themes. These can range from optimization/modelling concepts to various product dynamics and the ability to connect forecasts and actuals to market trends, strategy, customer behaviour, and assumptions.Take measures to provide expert advice for conceptualizing & delivering POCs by providing subject matter knowledge of advanced analytics & Machine learning techniques.Enable mapping the journey of successful POCs to full scale deployment & production.Develop best in automated solutions that minimise manual effort & use new technology that is easily deployable.Liaison with various stakeholders across finance, risk, other finance teams to design and deploy solutions.Contribute to finance transformation projects and automation efforts by testing, documenting, and supporting implementation.Enable the development of analytical tools and models to provide insights for balance sheet accuracy & controller objectives. Collaborate across teams to test, and implement solutions Responsible for formulating strategic measures to improve existing models, address Independent Model Review findings, model ratings through effective governance and adherence to Model Policy and Standards.Extend strategic support for building a high-performing analytics team—recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing talent with specialized skills.Device strategies for standardization and simplification across functions and track their effectiveness and efficiency.

Proactively manage expectations by providing timely updates on deliverables, issue status, and reporting timelines.Demonstrate effective relationship management with stakeholders at all levels.Continuously engage and support stakeholders on evolving business and functional requirementsRespond promptly and professionally to queries, data requests, and escalations from business and support teams.Build collaborative relationships with upstream (e.g. data providers, operations) and downstream (e.g. reporting, compliance) teams to ensure data quality and process alignment and continuity.Support governance forums by preparing dashboards, summaries, and inputs on key metrics and issues.Responsible for anticipating and addressing issues and concerns from stakeholders and resolve them in an effective manner

Operational Effectiveness & Control:

Maintain and drive strong controls around data integrity and accuracy for all deliverablesMonitor process checklists and control points to ensure adherence to operational and compliance standards.Support the implementation and maintenance of internal controls across close, reporting, and reconciliation activities.Identify inefficiencies or recurring issues in daily operations and propose actionable improvements.Assist in process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and control testing as part of internal risk programs.Effectively drive and manage change, plan business contingency and achieve cross-trainingEnsuring BCP plan is documented, agreed with business partner and tested as per agreed timelinessContribute to process refinement initiatives by identifying opportunities to simplify workflows and reduce manual interventions.Support automation efforts by collaborating on tool adoption, data flow improvements, and pilot implementations that enhance process efficiency and accuracy.

To be successful you will:

Preferably CA/CWA: 5-7 years or B Com /M Com/ CA (Inter)/ CWA (Inter): 10-14 yearsStrong knowledge of month end closure & Reporting processes at large financial institutions will be preferredExperience and working knowledge of IFRS (DipIFR certification would be an added advantage) with deep understanding of financial disclosure and compliance requirements.Strong experience and working knowledge of SARACEN, General Ledger like Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft including related data flowsExperience that demonstrates ability to deliver BAU and Change/ Transformation ProjectsGood knowledge of Analytical tools, MS Access Database, SAS will have an added advantage. Experience in managing diverse analytics projects virtually and cross-functionally.Strong commercial acumen with deep knowledge of IFRS standards, financial drivers, P&L, and ratios.
