Role Description

The Head of Research / Research Director is responsible for leading the organization's research strategy, overseeing research operations, and ensuring the development of high-quality, data-driven insights that support strategic decision-making. This role provides direction for research methodologies, analytical frameworks, and knowledge management processes while guiding a team of researchers to deliver impactful outputs. The Research Director plays a central role in shaping the research agenda, aligning research priorities with organizational goals, and ensuring that findings are accurate, relevant, and actionable.

Core responsibilities include designing and implementing research programs, overseeing data collection and analysis, and ensuring methodological rigor across all research activities. The role develops research roadmaps, sets performance standards, and monitors progress to ensure timely and high-quality delivery. The Research Director reviews and validates reports, briefing documents, and analytical outputs to ensure they meet strategic requirements and support internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, the role involves monitoring industry trends, emerging themes, and market developments to inform strategic planning and identify new research opportunities. The Research Director collaborates closely with leadership teams to translate research into insights that guide business strategy, product development, investment decisions, or policy recommendations. The role also ensures the effective use of analytical tools, data platforms, and research technologies that enhance productivity and output quality.

The Head of Research leads and develops the research team by providing mentorship, establishing clear expectations, and fostering a culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and continuous improvement. The role involves overseeing cross-functional collaboration, ensuring research alignment with broader organizational initiatives, and building relationships with external partners such as academic institutions, industry experts, and research organizations.

Success in this role requires advanced analytical capabilities, strong leadership, and the ability to manage complex research projects. The Research Director must demonstrate strategic thinking, attention to detail, and the capability to convert data into meaningful insights.
