Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Consultant — Roles and Responsibilities

Role Overview:

An ERM Consultant provides strategic advisory and planning support to organizations to design, implement, and optimize their enterprise risk management frameworks. The consultant ensures that the organization's risk strategy aligns with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities1. Risk Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement the organization's risk management strategy in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments and create a structured risk roadmap.
  • Define the organization's risk appetite and tolerance levels with leadership teams.
  • Support strategic planning by integrating risk insights into business decisions.

2. Risk Framework Development

  • Design and implement ERM frameworks based on global standards (ISO 31000, COSO ERM, NIST).
  • Establish governance structures for risk management, including roles, responsibilities, and escalation protocols.
  • Develop policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and documentation for risk management.

3. Risk Advisory & Consulting

  • Advise management on potential threats, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
  • Facilitate workshops and training to build a risk-aware culture across departments.
  • Conduct scenario planning and stress testing to assess business resilience.

4. Risk Monitoring & Reporting

  • Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and dashboards for continuous monitoring.
  • Prepare periodic risk reports and present insights to senior management and boards.
  • Support regulatory and compliance audits with required risk documentation.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Collaborate with business units, compliance, IT, and finance teams to align risk priorities.
  • Act as a liaison between internal teams and external auditors or regulators.
  • Communicate complex risk data in clear, actionable formats for decision-makers.
