Job Title : Automation Test Engineer

Primary Responsibilities
The Automation Test Engineer will work within the Test, Validation and Release Team, which is part of the wider Technology team in the Qinecsa organisation. This role provides the right candidate with the opportunity to design, implement, and maintain high-quality automated test frameworks, contributing throughout the development life cycle.
- Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and maintainable automated test suites using Playwright with JavaScript.
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, and QA leads to ensure test automation aligns with product requirements and release milestones.
- Expand test coverage and improve test reliability by applying automation best practices.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Execute and maintain automated regression, functional, and smoke test suites.
- Support exploratory and risk-based testing to complement automation coverage.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Refinement, Retrospectives, Stand-ups).
- Identify gaps in automation, suggest improvements, and drive adoption of test automation across projects.
- Stay updated on emerging tools, frameworks, and trends in automation testing.
Secondary Responsibilities
Maintain quality service and departmental standards by:
- Stay updated on emerging trends and tools in test automation.
- Ensure familiarity with and adherence to organisational standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality assurance and compliance.
Contribute to team effort by:
- Ability to work closely with Developers and Product Owners to ensure features/bug fixes are completed by the end of a sprint.
- Contribute to Sprint Planning, Sprint Refinement sessions, Retrospectives and Daily Stand-up meetings.
- Collaborates and communicates well, builds great working relationships, influences others, challenges effectively, responds well to challenges from others, shares information and ideas with others, and has good listening skills.
Maintain technical and industry knowledge by:
- Pursuing relevant certifications aligned with project and organisational needs.
- Attending and actively participating in training sessions, workshops and conferences.
Qualifications
Education: Educated to degree level in Computer Science or a relevant discipline.
Experience: 3-6 Years years of experience in test automation, with hands-on experience in Playwright with JavaScript (or similar JS-based frameworks like Cypress, WebdriverIO). Previous experience with at least one other automation framework (e.g., Selenium, Cypress) is required.
Skills
- Proficient in JavaScript for automation, with a deep understanding of JS-based framework (Playwright preferred)
- Strong knowledge of version control systems (Git) and collaborative workflows like pull requests (PR), code reviews.
- Proficiency in debugging complex test scripts and performance bottlenecks.
- High level of experience in building an automation framework from scratch and improving the framework.
- Strong understanding of JSON and XML, including creation, validation, and working with associated schemas (e.g., JSON Schema, XML Schema).
- Proficiency in SQL (e.g., writing and optimising queries, basic schema design).
- Comfort with basic Linux commands for scripting, troubleshooting and environment setup.
- Understanding of web technologies (such as HTML, CSS etc.).
- Understanding and working knowledge of cloud-based platform providers such as AWS.
- Experience in using test design techniques and applying risk analysis to identify test types and test coverages.
- Curious, observant, and intuitive, with the ability to design, execute, and evaluate test scenarios against the system under test.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
