Role Overview

As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will play a vital role in supporting our US-based clients by evaluating and processing mortgage loan applications. This includes assessing risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and making sound underwriting decisions.

You will work in a collaborative team that values accuracy, integrity, and customer-centricity, directly contributing to the success of our mortgage operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform live origination underwriting for US clients, including both initial reviews and re-reviews.
• Examine loan applications and supporting documentation (credit reports, income statements, employment records, etc.) for completeness and accuracy.
• Analyze applicants' credit history, income, assets, liabilities, and property valuation to assess risk and repayment capability.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and all applicable federal and state mortgage regulations.
• Approve or deny applications based on comprehensive risk analysis; recommend alternatives where applicable.
• Collaborate with mortgage brokers, loan officers, and applicants to gather additional information and communicate underwriting decisions.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on US mortgage underwriting experience (Conventional and FHA required; VA and USDA preferred).
• Tools & Guidelines: Proficient in Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP); strong knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines.

• Skills:

• Ability to analyze income, employment, credit, DTI, LTV, and property appraisals.

• Proficiency in calculating all income types (wage earner, self-employment, etc.).
• Ability to verify accuracy of employment documents, down payments, reserves, appraisals, and title commitments.
• Strong decision-making skills in identifying red flags and assessing loan eligibility.
• Experience reviewing legal documentation for completeness and accuracy.
