Your work profile:

MY SQL DB Engineer with Cassandra / Maria

A database engineer specializing in Cassandra / Maria responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable, and fault-tolerant NoSQL database systems. This role often focuses on big data environments and requires deep expertise in Cassandra's distributed architecture, data modeling, and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Cluster management and deployment:
  Design, deploy, and maintain Cassandra clusters in development, testing, and production environments, often in a multi-datacenter or cloud setting.
• Data modeling:
  Collaborate with application developers to design optimal data models and schemas that support business requirements and deliver high performance.
• Performance tuning:
  Continuously monitor, analyze, and optimize Cassandra cluster performance by tuning configurations, compaction strategies, and query performance to address bottlenecks.
• Automation:
  Develop automation scripts and tools using languages like Python or Bash for operational tasks, including deployments, upgrades, and monitoring.
• Maintenance and operations:
  Perform routine maintenance tasks, including managing backups, repairs, and cleanup processes, while participating in on-call rotations for 24/7 production support.
• GCP
  Data migration:
  Execute data migration and integration projects, loading large datasets into Cassandra clusters from various data sources.
• High availability and disaster recovery:
  Implement robust replication strategies to ensure high availability and durability, and develop backup and disaster recovery plans.
• Security:
  Implement and enforce security measures, including access controls, authentication, and encryption, to protect data.
• Collaboration:
  Work closely with other engineering teams (DevOps, application development, data science) to integrate Cassandra with application and data pipelines.
• Troubleshooting:
  Diagnose and resolve complex database-related issues, including performance problems, data inconsistencies, and replication failures.

Required skills and experience

• Expert Cassandra knowledge:
  Strong hands-on experience managing and monitoring large-scale Apache Cassandra clusters in a production environment. This includes familiarity with DataStax Enterprise (DSE) if applicable.
• NoSQL and distributed systems:
  Deep understanding of NoSQL databases, Cassandra's distributed architecture, and concepts like replication, consistency levels, and partitioning.
• Data modeling and CQL:
  Expertise in designing Cassandra data models and writing efficient queries using Cassandra Query Language (CQL).
• Scripting and automation:
  Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Bash, and experience with automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
• Linux/Unix:
  Strong working knowledge of Linux or Unix operating systems, as Cassandra is typically managed in these environments.
• Monitoring and visualization:
  Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or DataStax OpsCenter to track cluster health and performance.
• Programming languages:
  Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language like Python, Java, or Scala is often required for scripting and ETL tasks.
• Big data ecosystem:
  Familiarity with other big data technCassandra ologies like Apache Spark, Kafka, or Solr, especially when building large data pipelines.
• Problem-solving:
  Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex issues in a distributed environment.
• Communication:
  Excellent communication skills to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams
