Role & responsibilities
Infection Prevention & Control
- Develop, implement, and evaluate infection control policies and procedures.
- Monitor and prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
- Conduct routine infection surveillance and outbreak investigations.
- Identify infection risks and recommend corrective actions.
Surveillance & Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and interpret infection data.
Maintain accurate infection control records and reports.
Report infection trends to hospital leadership and regulatory bodies as required.
- Ensure compliance with national and international guidelines (e.g., CDC, WHO).
Education & Training
Educate healthcare staff on infection prevention practices, including:
Hand hygiene
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Isolation precautions
Sterilization and disinfection procedures
Conduct orientation and ongoing training programs.
Policy Compliance & Audits
- Perform infection control audits and risk assessments.
Monitor compliance with standard and transmission-based precautions.
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Collaboration & Consultation
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, microbiology, environmental services, and administration.
- Provide consultation on infection-related issues.
- Participate in infection control committees and emergency preparedness planning.
Patient & Staff Safety
- Ensure proper waste management and environmental cleanliness.
- Promote vaccination and exposure management programs for staff.
- Assist in managing occupational exposures (e.g., needle-stick injuries).
Preferred candidate profile
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid license.
- Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Specialized training or certification in Infection Control (e.g., CIC) preferred.
