A QA/QC Engineer in heavy fabrication is responsible for ensuring fabricated products, such as storage tanks, pressure vessels, and structural components, meet project requirements and industry standards. Key duties include preparing quality plans (QAPs), conducting stage-wise inspections, reviewing welding processes, managing non-conformance reports, coordinating with third-party inspectors, and documenting all quality-related activities. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with experience in non-destructive testing (NDT), are essential for this role. Responsibilities

  • Quality Planning :Develop and implement Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) based on project and customer requirements.
  • Material Control: Verify the conformity of incoming materials against drawings and material test certificates, ensuring traceability through marking and documentation.
  • Welding Quality: Prepare, review, and get approval for Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) from third-party agencies.
  • Shop & Stage Inspections: Monitor fabrication activities and perform stage-wise inspections for products like storage tanks, pressure vessels, and structural components to ensure compliance with specifications and drawings.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):Oversee and review the results of NDT methods such as radiography (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MPI), and dye penetrant testing (DPT).
  • Non-Conformance Management: Establish non-conformance reports for issues identified in materials or fabricated products and ensure timely resolution.
  • Third-Party Inspection: Coordinate with and assist third-party inspection agencies and auditors during their inspections and reviews.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain technical files, compile and update documentation, and prepare quality reports, including monthly reports on performance and improvements.
  • Welder Qualification :Conduct welder qualification activities to ensure personnel are properly certified.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Technical Expertise :Proficiency in various Sheet Metal , welding processes and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods (ASNT/ISNT Level II in RT, UT, MPI, DPT, TOFD/PAUT).
  • Analytical Skills :Ability to analyze processes and documents, identify hazards, and problem-solve.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is critical for reviewing plans and ensuring compliance.
  • Communication Skills :Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed to coordinate with different departments, workers, and clients.
  • Experience :Proven work experience in QA/QC within the heavy fabrication industry.
