Position: Production Head
Reporting to: Plant Head
Experience : 10+years in manufacturing, out of which 3+ years as Production Head.
Qualifications : BE Mechanical 10 + Years of experience or DME(Mech) 15+ Years of experience. For DME higher experience by 5years is necessary.
Job Purpose:
Ensure availability of functional infrastructure, machines, tools to fulfill goals, ensure budgets, sops and quality norms are defined, communicated and implemented on the shop floor.
Ensure achievement of monthly and annual goals, while ensuring optimum use of man, machines and material with highest safety standards, to achieve planned profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution:
• Convert monthly / weekly schedules into actionable daily production plans.
• Manage fabrication lines (cutting, bending, forming), welding bays, and final assembly.
Manpower & Shift Management:
• Plan work force allocation across 3 shifts; monitor attendance, skill deployment, and productivity KPIs.
Lean Manufacturing & Efficiency:
• Apply Lean tools, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and OEE monitoring to improve efficiency.
• Reduce bottlenecks by optimizing material movement, takt time, and setup changeover.
Coordination & Communication:
• Liaise with Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and Planning for smooth plant operations.
• Participate in daily production review meetings with senior management.
Safety & Compliance:
• Ensure plant adherence to EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) standards.
• Implement safe work practices in welding, press operation, and material handling.
Execution, Monitoring and Control Operating Plans
• Prepare the monthly operating plans (viz plant utilization) based on established priorities, availability or capability of workers, parts, material, machines, and equipment.
• As per the daily plan given by PPC, review the work orders allocation to specific line owners.
• Discuss with PPC for revision of schedule according to work order specifications.
Process Control
• Ensure team has absolute clarity on SOPs, Process control norms and safety.
• Guide your reportees to ensure they bring in same clarity with their reportees, on a need to know basis.
• Ensure dedicated efforts towards process compliance to meet all customer norms.
Quality
• Build appreciation for quality compliance in reporting team.
• Focus on delivering a product which effectively satisfies the quality level ordered by the customer, while adhering to highest safety standards.
• Focus on minimizing rework / rejection and any form of wastage.
• Monitor & Track quality issues, analyze same and take appropriate corrective action.
• Work with quality team to understand areas of improvement and implement same immediately.
Business Plan:
• Understand Annual Business Plan and goals and targets of your function.
Budget & Cost Control:
• Use optimally, monitor and control the functional budget for the year. Adhere to policies to control cost.
• Record data and variance against budget items assigned to your function
• Ensure compliance to defined procedures and use of related formats and checklists, in all areas of work

Reports & MIS
• Capture data your role is responsible for, in defined formats. Ensure accuracy and timeframes of each report
• Understand the figures and their impact, analyze same and propose corrective actions, wherever needed. Ensure communication of same to team.
Quality
• Understand Quality policy and adhere to it in every area of work.
• Highlight quality issues, irrespective of seniority, department or tenure.
Leadership : Clarity of communication, Team Building, Motivation, Counselling.
Managerial : Budgeting, Database decision-making, Continuous Improvement, Cost Control, MIS and process orientation.
Planning, organizing, scheduling and monitoring. Problem analysis and problem solving. Delegation.
Ability to prioritize between predictive, preventive and breakdown Maintenance.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of automobiles, their sub-systems and functions of important parts such as suspension, exhaust, fuel system, coolant circuit, etc.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes in engine assembly, press line, weld line, paint line, final assembly, etc.
• Knowledge of production techniques such as Lean Manufacturing.
• Knowledge of scheduling work across shifts as per the production plan.
• Understanding of end-to-end processes, not just your section.
• Basic clarity of financial/commercial effect of production methods.
• Knowledge of quality concepts such as Six Sigma, JIT, TQM, Kaizen, 5-S.
Technology: Capability to use Microsoft Office, Intranet and Internet / SAP. Appreciation for use of technology to improve output & performance.
