Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Function: Operations (O&M)

Reports to: Area Operations Manager

Team Managed: 68 Technicians, overseeing sites

1. Job Purpose

To ensure safe, efficient operations and maintenance of telecom tower sites, maximizing uptime while optimizing cost and energy usage.

2. Key Responsibilities

a. ESH Compliance

  • Maintain site hygiene, follow SOPs, ensure PPE usage, and conduct safety training.

b. Customer Management

  • Support outage escalations, site access, and upgrades; maintain customer relationships.

c. Site Quality & Process Compliance

  • Ensure infrastructure quality, conduct audits, and enforce compliance.

d. Energy Management

  • Reduce diesel consumption, manage EB faults, and ensure energy compliance.

e. Uptime Management

  • Maintain infra uptime, conduct RCA for outages, and ensure site automation.

f. Team Management

  • Evaluate technician performance, training, and site allocation.

g. Landlord Management

  • Ensure site access, resolve hygiene issues, and maintain landlord relations.

3. Decision-Making Authority

  • Without approval: Routine maintenance, fault rectification, diesel pilferage reporting.
  • With manager informed: Consumables replacement, site visits.
  • With approval: Material issuance (via Area Ops Manager or Head O&M).

4. Dimensions

  • Financial: Operate within OPEX budget.
  • People: 68 technicians, sites.
  • Other: Coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

5. Key Interactions

  • Internal: SCM, Energy Dept., Security, Estate, TOC.
  • External: IMEs/OMEs/SMEs, customer field teams, landlords, partner technicians.

6. Major Challenges

  • Site outages (non-DG, access issues), theft, equipment issues, weather, material constraints, and technician availability.

7. Skills & Knowledge

  • Education: A full-time degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred; Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge: Electrical systems, DG sets, GSM/CDMA basics.
  • Skills: Analytical, planning, team management, multitasking.
  • Experience: 12 years in telecom infra with OME/SME/IME partners.

8. Future Outlook

  • Need for skills in active/passive infra management, project implementation, and cost-conscious operations.

9. Typical Day

  • 15%: Morning O&M calls
  • 50%: Site visits
  • 25%: Field issue meetings
  • 10%: PM validation and billing
