Senior Engineer Search

Alberts mission is to foster a software platform that uses big data and machine learning to

accelerate the invention of new formulations and novel materials drastically.

We are looking for a Software Engineer I Search with expertise in enterprise-grade search

technologies. The ideal candidate has sound knowledge on ElasticSearch (preferred) or Lucene-

based search engines, with hands-on experience building enterprise search applications. Exposure to AWS is a must, while Python and DynamoDB are good-to-have skills.

Responsibilities:

Design and develop enterprise-grade search applications using Elasticsearch or Lucene-

based search engines for high-traffic applications.

Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable APIs for search features using and AWS

services.

Develop, maintain, and monitor serverless components (AWS Lambda, CloudWatch log

insights).

Implement query tuning, indexing strategies, and search performance improvements.

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate search into business

workflows.

Write clean, maintainable code with unit tests and documentation.

Implement cross-cluster search, multi-tenant search solutions, and real-time search

capabilities.

Ensure efficient log storage, retention policies, and lifecycle management in Elasticsearch.

Monitor and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, ensuring high availability and resilience.

Design and implement real-time and batch indexing pipelines for structured and

unstructured data.

Optimize schema design, field mappings, and tokenization strategies for improved search

performance.

Manage custom analyzers, synonyms, stopwords, and stemming filters for multilingual

search.

Ensure search infrastructure adheres to security best practices, including encryption,

access control, and audit logging.

Optimize search for low latency, high throughput, and cost efficiency.

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure

seamless platform delivery.

Define and communicate a strategic roadmap for Search initiatives aligned with business

goals.

Work closely with stakeholders to understand database requirements and provide technical

solutions.

Requirements:

4+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years deep expertise in ElasticSearch /

OpenSearch.

Sound knowledge of Lucene-based search engines and enterprise search applications.

Strong hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, CloudWatch, etc.).

Proven experience building enterprise search applications.

Familiarity with Python or DynamoDB is a plus.

Strong understanding of distributed systems, indexing, and query optimization.

Experience working in an agile, product-focused environment.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
