Minimum 14 years' experience in large scale infrastructure contracts, project procurement and supply chain management, including at least ten years in a leadership role in the thermal power or energy infrastructure sector. Demonstrated leadership in draing, negoang and concluding large scale (> 2000 CR INR) contracts, managing cross-funconal teams, and overseeing procurement funcon for sizable organizaon. Extensive experience in negoang financial and commercial agreements, managing risk, and working with senior execuves and external stakeholders. Direct exposure to the thermal power industry, including hands-on involvement in project execuon and procurement processes, contract management and arbitraon is strongly preferred. 6. Job Role: Torrent power a thriving ulity with presence in all sectors of power i.e. Generaon, transmission and distribuon is expanding its porolio rapidly in Generaon and Transmission. In addion to its ambious plans in renewable energy and new technology domains, Torrent Power intents to expand its operaon in coal based thermal power plant in line with Government India's target of 500 GW of overall capacity and immediate addion of GW of thermal capacity. For this purpose, Torrent Power seeks seasoned Head-Commercial to lead the development and execuon of greenfield coal-based thermal power projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing commercial and financial operaons for large coalfired thermal power projects. The role involves structuring deals, and opmizing procurement, along with knowledge of risk management, compliance, taxaon structures and stakeholder engagement to support project goals. The Vice President Commercial is responsible for the strategy and cost opmizaon for thermal power projects, including planning, risk management, procurement, and collaborates with senior leadership to achieve project objecves. 7. Key Responsibilies: Contract Lifecycle Management: Lead and oversee the complete contract lifecycle for EPC, supply and service contracts—from pre-award strategy to post-award administraon and closure. Contract Draing & Negoaon: Dra, review, and negoate high-value contracts including EPC agreements, consultancy contracts, supply and service agreements, ensuring alignment with project goals and risk migaon. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all contracts comply with applicable laws, environmental regulaons, power sector norms, and statutory requirements including CEA, MoEF, and CERC guidelines. Tendering & Bid Management: Lead preparaon, issuance, and evaluaon of tender documents for major packages (BoP, BTG, transmission, etc.), in coordinaon with technical and procurement teams. Commercial Evaluaon & Award: Conduct detailed bid analysis, techno-commercial evaluaons, and finalize contracts in collaboraon with engineering, finance, and procurement departments. Risk Management: Idenfy contractual and commercial risks, propose migaon strategies, and ensure risk registers are maintained and updated. Claims & Dispute Resoluon: Manage contractor claims (e.g., prolongaon, acceleraon, force majeure), lead negoaons, and coordinate with legal advisors for dispute resoluon and arbitraon proceedings. Contract Closure: Ensure all contractual obligaons are fulfilled, oversee final selements, and manage documentaon for contract closure and audit compliance. Stakeholder Coordinaon: Liaise with internal teams (Projects, Legal, Finance, Procurement) and external stakeholders (contractors, consultants, regulatory bodies). Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of contract administrators and commercial professionals, fostering a high-performance culture. Systems & Tools: Ulize ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), contract management plaorms, and MS Office tools for efficient documentaon and reporng. 8. Qualificaon: B. Tech in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering (Mandatory) Post-Graduaon in Construcon Management / Contracts Management / Infrastructure Law (Preferred; NICMAR or equivalent) 9. Required Skills: Strong understanding of FIDIC, EPC frameworks, and power sector regulaons Excellent negoaon, analycal, and interpersonal skills Proven ability to manage complex contracts and mul-disciplinary teams Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the power sector, including different technologies (Super Critical Thermal Power Projects) and the specific challenges of large-scale infrastructure projects. Purchasing & Procurement Skills: Demonstrated experience in procurement strategy development, supplier evaluation and selection, contract negotiation, and ensuring compliance with corporate purchasing policies and quality standards. Skills in cost optimization, supply chain management, and market analysis are essential, as is the ability to manage relationships with vendors and drive continuous improvement within the procurement process. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Proven leadership to motivate and manage cross-functional teams, combined with strong public speaking, negotiation, and presentation abilities for both internal and external stakeholders.
