Job Description:
An accountant for an ethanol plant job description includes managing financial records, handling inventory and cost accounting, ensuring tax and statutory compliance, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting. Key duties involve preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, tracking expenses, and generating reports on production costs, sales, and profitability, while also collaborating with operations and other departments. 
 
Core responsibilities
  • Financial reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including journals for monthly closing, and generate daily/weekly/monthly reports on plant performance.
  • Cost accounting: Manage inventory valuation, perform cost variance analysis, track capital expenditures, and recommend cost-optimization measures.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: Assist in developing and monitoring the annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Compliance and taxation: Ensure timely filing of all statutory returns like GST, TDS, and excise duty, and assist with environmental and other compliance reporting.
  • Auditing: Support both internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
  • Payroll and accounts payable/receivable: Oversee or assist with the functions of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Data analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement, and provide financial insights to plant management. 
 
Required skills and qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a similar accounting role, with manufacturing or ethanol industry experience being a strong advantage.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in accounting software like Tally/ERP, strong skills in MS Excel, and a solid understanding of cost accounting principles.
  • Analytical skills: A strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Soft skills: Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with other teams.
  • Certifications: A CPA or other professional certification can be a plus.
