Main Duties & Responsibilities
Supporting tool concept / DFM's detailing within 12-48hrs for commercial evaluation (Prototype tooling to production tools above 4 cavity)
Provide functional mold design support to meet Omega standards and/or client expectations.
Support design related issues throughout the build process and propose solutions
Monitor design due date, quoted timing and communicate when either cannot be met immediately.
Coordination with Tool Engineering/Design Manager / Tool designer Lead, Tooling Team, Clients, Commercial Quoting Team, Program Managers & NPD team.
Uphold and communicate the purpose, principles, and vision of Omega Plastics and TriMas
Supports detailing out drawings and generating data for Electrode, pallet system /wire erosion.

Supporting Technical
interface with tooling personnel and Project Managers for design and
manufacture of a mold based on part data provided.  (Modify as necessary to meet DFM/part
requirements.)
Directly support
other departments as required or any additional items as directed by
management, including cross functional role in all other tooling
departments.
Building
awareness of regulatory and customer requirements as it pertains to
Omega's clients; especially for Omega's medical clients (ref. ISO13485).
Supports third party sourcing of
complete tools and components when required

Other work as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or manager.

Qualifications
Exposed to Thin wall high precision medical and packaging tooling ideally.
Min 2-3 years of hands-on experience in Mold making
Min 1-3 years of tool design
Supports DFM design for ease of manufacture / acting as the toolmaker (Milling, Grinding, CNC, EDM) Experience of PowerPoint to generate DFM reports.
Has some experience / appreciation of thermal calculation models (Cooling / flow, thermal management of the tool design)
Has had exposure ideally of designing higher temperature tool designs for engineering plastics like PEEK, PBT, Nylon etc.
Limited exposure to higher cavity tool design from 1-4 cavity tooling
2-3Years experience of Injection Mold design and/or plastic part design experience
Experience of parametric design software Creo / SolidWorks, production Mold design experience
Able to complete detail part / steel drawing generation for outsourcing control.
Able to complete DFM from tool concept /best practice oriented, current on latest design concepts
Knowledge of resin properties, venting, gating, cooling, automation
Solution-oriented, good planning /organizational skills, strong communication skills
Team player who works well with customers and other team members
Functional knowledge of GMP and GDP
